Wii Internet Channel Now Supports USB Keyboards

wii-internet-channel.jpg

When the Wii’s last firmware update added USB keyboard support, it was quickly brushed aside as a worthless feature. The one place where a keyboard would be most useful – the Internet Channel – didn’t have support for keyboards. That changed yesterday when an update to the Opera browser was released, headlined by keyboard support.

Now, keyboard support might be worthless if you don’t have a wireless keyboard (who wants to sit a few feet away from the TV?), but there are a few other features in the update as well. Among these features is the ability to send links to those on your friends list, more storage for bookmarks, the ability to copy/paste, and other tidbits.

As I recall, the last update didn’t even mention the limited keyboard support. Users simply discovered it. This lead me to believe they had no intention of releasing keyboard support until this more recent update. Anyway, keyboard support is awesome, the opera browser really does work well and that was the biggest failing to my mind.
