Wildman Kickstarter: Chris Taylor Tearfully Explains Why He Had To Let Go Off His Employees
Gas Powered Games, best known for Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander, has laid off most of its employees. Word of the lay-offs broke just four days after the studio’s launch of a Kickstarter campaign for a game called Wildman, an “evolutionary” action RPG.
Not long after the news broke, Chris Taylor published a heartfelt video update on Kickstarter explaining the difficult decision he had to make for the company, which was due to funding problems. Taylor says that the decision was necessary to ensure that the employees would receive their severance packages and their remaining pay.
In his update, Taylor explained that stringing the entire studio along in hopes of the Kickstarter’s success wouldn’t be fair for employees at the company. The campaign had the potential to fail and leave many of the developers without a means to feed themselves.
To that end, Taylor put the question out to the Kickstarter community to ask whether he should continue the Kickstarter campaign. Should it succeed, he intends to re-hire all of the employees he laid off, if they’re willing to return.
The Kickstarter campaign for Wildman seeks $1.1 million in funding and ends in 27 days. It’s reached a quarter of its goal, thus far.
