Will Sony's Dual Shock 3 Matter?

Dual Shock 3

The Sony PS3 is still behind the curve when it comes to many aspects of the next generation console battle. Many gamers are highly interested in the Dual Shock 3 controllers, but will it really matter? My vote is “no”. At this point, what we need is better games and more affordable console prices if the PS3 wants to become a real contender. The new Dual Shock 3 retains most of the qualities of Sixasis, with only a few noticeable changes. When holding one of the new Dual Shock 3 controllers, I noticed it was considerably heavier than older models, which could be a good thing for some gamers. The analog sticks are slightly more sensitive, but not noticeable in my opinion. Fortunately the DS3 is backwards compatible with older games and patches will be available making it usable for PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. The controller will be hitting shelves early in 2008 and will probably sell well. Although it’s an interesting controller and a nice add to the peripheral options for the Sony PS3, it’s simply not the kind of changes I am really looking for. When more exclusive titles start rolling out and console prices drop, then I believe the PS3 will finally be a legitimate force in gaming.

Yea 2008 is shaping up to be a very good year for Sony. Just 2 titles will sweep the floor, Little Big Planet and Killzone 2, these will sell the system, as everyone already knows!

It’s funny, a lot of developers complain about the PS3’s architect and fair enough, because I don’t know shit about making games, but the other side of the coin is that all these scientists are saying how powerful it really is and only a few of the consoles linked can match most supercomputers and if not better them.

So the PS3 HAS the potential, the way games are made will probably have to evolve or even change to suit this new way.

Now as far as Dual Shock is concerned, I’m one of the ones who always, ALWAYS, turns it off, so either way I don’t care, if anything it will add a bit more ‘meat’ to the controller.

Sry bro, but I can’t agree on that. The Sony PS3 is albeit pretty powerful, but for a console system only. When matched up to a well-built PC it is nothing much. If you at the specs you will see tht it uses very powerful
RAM and the like, but its processing power does not come near to the PC processors of the present. There is great potential in it as a console if Sony would start maing better deals with 3D designers but it should never be compared to a “supercomputer” or even an upper-end personal computer.

yes mate ur right in saying that its nothing much matched up to a well built pc. if buily yourself the minimum u’ll spend is about 600 quid. if bought then 1000 quid, so really is prettu pointless. consoles are built for games and pcs for work. thats how it should stay i’m afraid – especially since online gaming on the ps3 is on the up, and 100% free

geez how many f’in price drops do you guys need? Now PS3 is the same price as 360 was (still is?) with a lot more features. The price whining should officially end now, yet it’s still going on. PS3 griping seems to just be on auto-pilot now

the PS3 is still more expensive. you can now get the PS3 for £350.
now compare that with the £180 for a 360 core system.
that means i could get a core 360, 3 games, maybe a really old second hand game and still have some money for a portion of chips for the same price as a PS3.

its a bummer, i know. its the only thing keeping me from getting a PS3.

what shit is this! comparing the core system to the £350 ps3 model is pathetic.
    feature comparision
ps3: wireless internet built-in, blu ray, free online gaming, 60 GB harddrive
360 core system: no wireless internet built-in, standard dvd player (hd add-on xtra £130), subscription in order to play online games (whateva the yearly cost is), no harddrive (have to buy seperate harddrive or memory card), have to buy batterries for the controller, only get wired controller in the box. now work out how much money you have left. costs alot more money than the ps3 so it looks like you won’t have change left over to buy penny a 1p sweet let alone a bag of chips.

you can even get the premium for cheaper. you can get the elite 360 for cheaper. that comes with 120gig hard drive. hell, i can even get the limited edition halo console for cheaper. you can also get a wired controller, making your battery argument a load of rubbish. as for the rest, what make you think i give a s*!t!

its a GAMES console. not a DVD player. what makes you think i want to get it so i can watch movies on it!

One important point that this article missed is that the EU and US launch of the rumble is going to coincide with the launch of the Metal Gear Solid PS3 pack which comes with a DualShock 3 controller. That will sell a shitload of consoles.

For the people who keep saying its not as good as a gaming PC here is a little reminder for you.

It doesn’t matter how good your gaming PC is you cant play Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy 13 and Metal Gear Solid 4 on it. I’m a PC gamer myself which is why I have no real interest in buying a 360 but the PS3 offers something different to PC gaming which is games you cant get on the PC.

I find it quite pathetic that every little aspect of the PS3 (like rumble, Home, BluRay,) is being leaped upon, singled out and attacked as if its the one feature that Sony are hoping will sell the console yet those very same idiots taking part in this nonsense seem to always ignore the main thing that is going to sell the console which is a bit strange seeing as they keep reminding us of it when it suits them. GAMES. From next year it has the best games.

I think the PS3 is just way too advanced for developers right now. this should’ve been PS4.The PS3 is just…SMARTER!! so are the ones bought it!

    @ Ricky

“its a GAMES console. not a DVD player”

lol omfg dude!!that’s what the people at Microsoft said once, since then, that’s what every 360 owner says when talking about the Blu-ray in the PS3 just to compensate the they don’t have one, YOU WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT. Just face it, a Blu-ray player, game console, free on-line gaming, blutooth integrated, all in one now for $400?! psssss..that makes any 360 look very very expensive. and keep in mind that the 360 is very unreliable too.

the_truth said YOU WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT.

So true. When you can get a PS3 with a BluRay player, built in WiFi and free online play for $399 surely some 360 Elite owners must be wondering why they dont get that stuff considering they are paying $50 more.

all 360 people need to understand that they have got a machine what will not survive much longer. how much longer before developers get fed up with shitty dvds. On top of all that if they release games on hd dvd then they would all need to buy the add on. equals even more money
