Will Wright Confirms Spore for the Wii

willwright1.jpg

No wonder Will Wright’s been recently making a point of calling the Wii “the only next gen system [he's] seen.” Turns out the rumors that Spore was delayed so it could be adapted for a simultaneous console release are true, and it’s coming to none other than Nintendo’s system. Wright let slip this bit of information in a recent interview with Guardian Unlimited:

“We’re doing Spore on the Wii, and we did MySims. It takes signifcant re-thinking to work out how you’re going to do it. PS3 and Xbox 360 are similar enough that you can basically use the same system for both. So it comes down to what the interesting major platforms are and which markets we want to hit.”

He didn’t mention however if the Wii version would support the same online community features as its PC counterpart. If Nintendo’s past is any indicator though, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Unless you’re a rabid Wii fanboy (or any console fanboy for that matter), then please, do hold your breath. For as long it takes.

To be honest, in the way he set out his “Wii is the only next gen console” point, I entirely agree with him. Anyhow, that’s another point.

To be honest, I’d rather get Spore for the Wii. Online activity I don’t care about and shiny graphics I don’t care about. However, testimony to the Wii, I can guarantee my dad will LOVE Spore and it sounds like a cracking game for my self. Also, I doubt my PC will be able to play Spore.

Well Joelteon, I’m glad your dad is going to determine which console is next gen. Here I was thinking that next gen meant better graphics, online game play and more, but now you’ve shown us the way, I can see clearly now, YOUR OPINION is what determines what next gen is.

The only reason they put it on the Wii is because TheSims was such a big success with the non-gamer community that they needed a console that non-gamers(aka your dad) already have and enjoy(aka the Wii), this has nothing to do with next gen, it’s about about getting as many people to buy his game as possible.

The Wii is the most next gen console, because it is utilizing an idea different from all the others. All the others are still using the same ideas from last gen. There’s been no change!

anyway, I’m not really into simulation games, but spore definitely looks cool.

Hehe I love how Peter says graphics, online and more. Graphics and more online game are the only thing better on other consoles. U make me giggle

Well, Im sorry that you think that way, Im sorry that you think the Wii has a never-before-seen concept. It’s been done before with less success. All they did is they took and old idea and gave it a new look.

Yes… thing is it’s better. Talking of taking an old idea and giving it a new look… PS3… I have nothing else to add.

The PS3 took an old idea (PS2) and made it better, just like the PS2 evolved from the PSOne. It’s an evolution. Now the console has even more features built in and will work even better.

The Wii took the gamecube and added a new controller…..

The PS3 took the PS2 and added shiny graphics.

The Wii took a console and added something never seen before.

Also, this is great news! I have been following Spore for a while, and now its coming to the Wii I am really escited!

I wouldn’t go so far as to say the Wii added features never before seen, but if you’re going to define “next gen” by the number that goes at the end of a console name then you’re in luck. Sony and Microsoft have served you up a piping hot dish of same ol’ same ol’.

Next gen has got to be somehow DIFFERENT, not just better. The PS3 and the XBox 360 are upgrades, not advancements.

I’m on my Wii right now lol

I hope it has the same online component, even if its just Wiiconnect24 and not cross-platform, even though it would be cool, it be to hard.

If it doesn’t, its cool.

But we definitely NEED all the stages from cell-space. Thats a must.

This very well maybe the moment to shine for the Wii, It is really my free internet right now since theres not really and good games out yet. I just like Twilight Princess. And Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Give the Wii a year and I’m sure it will pull through as the best console games for all ages and groups, from casual-hardcore.

In just needs time to fly.

The 360 is still the best when it comes to online play and adrenalin pumped action, and will destroy the PS3 in time.

The Wii is one true thing: F-U-N But it needs time to get unique original and exclusive titles for it that are not stupid 3rd party cross overs.

Spore will be the most unique and educational fun game ever. And if the Wii ver is the same as the pc ver but different controls. Then the Wii will get far more attention for people that want to play Spore but don’t have good PCs or very strict parents lol

Fantasic I say mates, just fantasic news

It would be great to get Spore on the  Xbox 360  but how would we design the shape of the creature like we will on PC or the Wii? :???:
Would we need to buy a USB port mouse?
The DS will be no problem with the creature creator because of the touch screen :!:
