Windows 7 64-bit Battle for Middle-Earth 2 Fix (Mod)

Apparently, Battle for Middle-Earth 2 crashes at start-up for some gamers running Windows 7 64-bit or those with a monitor that goes beyond a resolution of 1024×768. Since no support from the developers was provided, one member of the GameFront community took it upon himself to create a fix.

He succeeded.

Many other websites — including the EA forums — have verified that his solution works. The “mod” is an options.ini file that provides the basic menu settings to get your game running. You can even change your options to the settings of your choice.

Download the Windows 7 64-bit Battle for Middle-Earth fix now, or visit the GameFront Lord of the Rings network site, where you can find this and other great mods, or join the community and contribute your own creations.

Yea but it’s better to play it on windows xp. Simply put XP swap on a SSD and it’s ok.

Once I click the download do I have to put in a certain file, because I just let it do it on its own and the game still won’t work?

write the start menu search:
%appdata%
and copy the options.ini file into to the:
My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files

It worked! Running win 7 x64 on a 1600×900 display, the game start-up kept on hanging indefinitely. Placed the options.ini file under C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files. Ultimately this file just forces the software to run at 1024×768… much thanks to the individual who rolled this out!
