Witcher 3 Wraps Up This Trilogy, but Not Necessarily the Series

Tucked away in yesterday’s Witcher 3 announcement was the statement that this would be the final Witcher game from CDProjekt RED. Accoding to the press release, “They’ve [CDProjekt] announced that this, the ultimate game in the series, will also be the final Witcher game from the studio.” It also quoted studio head Adam Badowski as saying, “People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is. Why? Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note.”

Many fans of the series that were despondent at that news, but this morning brings them a gleam of hope. Eurogamer reported that, “when CDPR studio head Adam Badowski said The Witcher 3 would be the last Witcher game, what he really meant was it would be the last game of this trilogy.”

Naturally, we wanted to confirm this news, so we spoke with CD Projekt PR guru Tom Ohle, who told us that there’s still a chance of future games being made. He also tweeted the news:

So while the current story of Geralt may be ending, there’s hope for future installments. In my opinion, that’s awesome news.

“People may ask if this is really going to be the last [Witcher] game. Yes, it is. Why? Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Personally, I don’t think they should do more if Geralt isn’t in them. The books and the games revolve around the character, so it would feel very odd to use someone else. I’d much rather see them do something entirely new if they aren’t going to use Geralt anymore.
