World of Warcraft Patch 2.4 Details Surface

WoW LogoThe folks over at Blizzard are constantly updating their cash cow, World of Warcraft. So, I’ll admit to be being less than surprised at the news another major patch is in the works. However, one thing you have to give them is that they put in a pretty strong amount of content with every patch.

The newest patch will bring clients up to version 2.4, and will introduce a number of new things, including new 5-man instances and a new 25-man raid. This raid is intended to close the storyline of the Burning Crusade expansion before the Wrath of the Lich King expansion is released (still no date on when that will happen, though).

There are also changes to PvP balance and a new faction. Blizzard even says they’re aiming to bring PvP closer to e-sport acceptance, whatever the heck that means. In news that is sure to please the ‘I really need to make some more gold’ crowd, Blizzard is raising the cap on daily quests from 10 to 25.

First off, please understand that I don’t have some secret mole at Blizzard. I wish I did, but since I don’t, I had to steal this info from an interview with Jeff Kaplan (Tigole) published in a Swedish magazine. I’m hoping Blizzard won’t come after me for it. If they do, I’ll have one of my guildmates build me one of his patented poo forts (yes, that’s you Tak). If that sounds ineffective, ask yourself how eager you’d be to attack a fort constructed from poo.

You can check out the entire list of (revealed) upcoming items after the break.

Sunwell Isle

* Sunwell Isle will be located off the coast, north of Silvermoon, and will be patched in with patch 2.4
* Sunwell Isle will be a major questing hub with a 5-man Normal and Heroic Instance (Magister’s Terrace) and a 25-man raid (Sunwell Plateau). The goal with Sunwell Isle is to close the Burning Crusade storyline before the release of the next expansion.
* There are still a few scenarios left that could be released to provide the players with more content if WotLK gets delayed for any reason.
* At the release of the patch, players will access a small expedition camp where they can start questing. However as the questing progresses, players will expand the camp and make it grow to a small town by retaking building to the enemies (running daily quests mostly). You can consider it as a AQ Gates opening event, the more daily quests that gets done, the faster the whole server will progress.
* The quests will end the Tempest Keep story arc.
* “The Shattered Sun Offensive” will be the new faction of this quest hub. It also seems that Aldor and Scryers will finally start fighting together against the new threat.
* Both 5-man and 25-man dungeons will be accessible from the start, but some bosses will have to be unlocked by running the daily quests (server-wide) and/or leveling your reputation. The 5-man instance will most likely requires Honored reputation with The Shattered Sun Offensive, the first three bosses of the 25-man instance will be accessible from the start, while the three last ones will have to be unlocked through questing.

Sunwell Plateau

* Kael’thas will be one of the boss of the 5-man dungeon, he’s still alive and he’s now got a huge green crystal etched to his chest.
* Kil’jaeden will be the final boss of the 25-man instance. The other bosses include Brutalicus, a giant Pit Lord who has lost his wings, Kalecgos, a blue dragon enslaved by Kil’jaeden, a Fel Dragon, the female Eredar Twins, and a Dark Naaru.
* The 25-man instance will be slightly harder than Black Temple, and is tuned for Tier 6 geared players.
* There will not be any “real” Tier 7 set, but some of the drops will be set pieces (not necessarily class specific). The drops quality will be above T6.

Daily quests

* Patch 2.4 will raise the cap of Daily quests allowed in a day from 10 to 25.

PvP

* Balancing actions will be taken in regard to PvP for certain classes.
* Blizzard have large plans for, and they will be aiming to bring it closer to e-sport acceptance.

what does that really mean anyway? *Patch 2.4 will raise the cap of Daily quests allowed in a day from 10 to 25

Ron Whitaker

On December 21, 2007 at 11:35 am

@John: There are several quests at level 70 that can be repeated once per day. There are daily quests in Skettis, Ogri’la, and other places, as well as instance dailies and profession dailies. This patch will allow players to complete 25 of these quests per day, instead of the current 10.

This is a boon to players, as the average daily quest will net a player 11-12 gold each.

@SpRuNt – not really much to be afraid of, when you’ve played for almost 3 years you realise that they’ve actually done it every patch. Good ol’ Balancing ;)

@BonceDK – if you dont like it, dont post about it – even “kiddies” know better.

All the info sounds pretty cool tho, cant wait

Sounds interesting, kinda sad that the new 25man won’t be much harder than BT… They make this game way too easy for good guilds.
But, hey, you never know.

Also, guys, did you know that you can sign up for the new Wrath of the Lich King expansion now?
You can play free for 6 months. Oh yeah, and if you find any glitches, they add one free month to your WoW subscription. Its all in the email they send you.

The sign up is at warcraftlichking . info

NO SPACES.

Do not go to the url provided in mark’s post. This is a known scam, and will only likely get your account details stolen. There is absolutely NO open testing for WotLK yet, there’s not even a closed beta yet. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com and the WoW forums will have all the details for you when WotLK will be open for player testing.

As with all things, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

SpRuNt, they already announced a massive blow to shadow priests, due to warlocks being so OP they are reducing the spell damage effects on DoTs(Pretty much all you cast)

this game is far away from easy unless your a sado teenager that does nothing but plays wow 24/7, If you are what will you do when the server’s finally stop.Start takin drugs cos you cant get your fix, grow up.About 3% of wow players actually see the end game content so the only thing blizz needs to do is make the end game more accessible. And to you BonceDK this crappy kiddie game has more adults playing than any of your kiddie games that you play you fool. :)

ha yea, thats why i dont play anymore… its wayyy too addicting and the servers have to stop SOMETIME.. imo LK equals The End of WoW… and also, if any of yall have noticed, the graphics suck balls compared to other games… its like comparing DX7 graphics with DX10 ones… and the only thing you do is just sit there and lvl and lvl and lvl and then download 20 patches and then lvl through the new stuff and grind and blahblahblah its not that amazing guys… just takes up WAY too much time. WAYYYY too much. Get a newer game such as BF2142 or Crysis or even an older one like CS:S or HL2… thats the there.. srry WoW is just . and for those adults that do play, get a life. jeez.

Somebody know when this patch will come?? And will s2 be for honor and will there come s4??

On March 10, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Before WoW I did BF2 and BF2142, no thanks! Never again. Blizzard created a magical and wonderful universe where millions of people find immense pleasure! The graphics are part of what make it special. I can see this game going on for many many more years to come.

Raising the cap on dailies is a good thing for the few of us 70′s who don’t have an epic mount.A possible lvl 80 mount coming in the expansion it will be nice to get that out of the way and have a nice nest egg to sit on

Holy shit?!

On March 11, 2008 at 11:41 am

A possible level 80 mount in next expansion would rock total balls….Faster ground needed for sure….God damn lvl 100% ground…..Anybody know if they will be ing with mages at all? Also as this article explains….and I have also heard that the PVP prices will be dropping by alot which is a plus for sure….Still deciding if i should just save my honor points until this patch comes out……Any news on when it will hit the streets?

I have no problem with BG’s and other PvP content, it helps keep the game going strong. WoW will survive Conan and many other MMORPG’s as it appeals to many types of players.

What I hate is the lack of PvE players in PvE realms. I have no interest in Arena/BG and play for end game content. I trust no one with BG or Arena gear. ANYONE can get it, anyone.

I know tanks in blues and greens that know how to play better than some Arena/BG epic’d player.

Need more Game players and less gear collectors.

What?!?!?

On March 11, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Bloodsling…ummm what are you smoking? It’ll be a boon to all us 70s WITHOUT epic mounts  ? how so? By my reasoning there are only 9 daily quests one can complete without epic riding skill (the very thing you are doing dailies in order to save up for). Lets see…the 4 in Blades Edge…the 2 in Skettis (assuming you wanna wait around for escort)…the 2 daily dungeon quests…oh and the daily PvP quest. So…9 then, but realistically it’s 7 because unless have no life you’re not going to complete even one of the dungeon quests…let alone both…every day. Close but no cigar. you would have 14 dailys if you could do the Netherwing quests without epic mount training but you just can’t. Damn you blizzard (shakes fist).

L2patchnote

On March 11, 2008 at 5:09 pm

There may be only 9 daily quests available for those without epic flyers in the current version of WoW, however… as it has been made obvious (because of the fact that the new dungeons will be unlocked by new daily quests), there will be many more added in 2.4 which is also when the daily limit will be upped to 25. Thinking in more than 1 dimension is fun

People Are Dumb!!!

On March 12, 2008 at 9:52 am

WoW, @What?!?!?..Completing the daily dungeon quests is not hard to do, you can do both of them in a 2 hour span. And you dont NEED dailies to get money for epic mounts..just farm..so yeh, get learned

"kthxbaiscrub"

On March 13, 2008 at 6:00 pm

For one, What?!?!?!?, wtf would blizzard raise the daily cap from 10 to 25 if there were only 14 dailys in total anyways? Theyre obviously putting in a lot more dailys in the new zone. In this new zone you cant use your flying mount, so you wouldnt even have to have a normal flyer, you could make all the money with your ground mount and get your epic flyer first thing.
And ya when is this patch coming out?

Rhodri

On March 13, 2008 at 11:09 pm

Well I downloaded earlier, weighed in at 260mb. Even after it’s finished though game shows 2.3.3 so guessing they’re just staggering delivery of the patch before they bring it online.

Nubsy

Nerfing locks? Well, fair trade i guess since we’ll be able to summon into instances now.

I quit playing wow for awhile, but jump in from time to time to chit chat with my buddies. The game does take way to much time, and with a family, work, and starting a company, there isn’t time to do 4 hour instances, or run AV 20 times a day to keep up with the honor points it takes to get a pair of epic boots. So maybe I will give 2.4 a shot, but I for sure won’t be playing any more than an hour a day, and perhaps 2 or 3 on the weekends.

One has to have a life of some kind, and wow makes that hard if you like to actually see the end of a game.

Whilst I welcome all new content, it’s a shame that Blizzard are listening to the tiny (very loud) minority of WoW obsessives and catering for them with a raid dungeon few will ever be equipped to run.

The bulk of Blizzards income comes from casual players like myself, who’ll never have the time to get a complete set of tier 6 gear to run sunwell before the next expansion makes it’s obsolete.

Please don’t forget the silent majority Blizz.

Bloodsling

On March 17, 2008 at 3:18 pm

just tinkering with the new dailies on the test server I can make 120g+in less then an hour, and it’s all in one zone which is pimp. I hear they’re dropping the fee on epic training by half yay! if it’s true then man I’m glad I waited…always thought 5000g was a retarded sum of gold.

Luffe

On March 19, 2008 at 3:58 am

Hmm.. but its bit unfair for BS, the new weapon which can exchange by 105/45 budges it’s t-6 level, and spend like 3000g for my BS/masterhammersmith for nothing .

Shadowexe

On March 24, 2008 at 5:08 am

iunno but they should definately add better BS weapons. but if you look closely the new badge weapons are flawed stat-wise either for pvp or pve. i just think it’s retarded how much better arena weapons are for pve too

THANK GOD THEY R CHANGING THE LOCKS. I just hope they dont do anything major o rouges cuz i love rouges, but i hate taking on locks. O and for all you SOBs who keep downing on WoW, just keep those comments to urself. I think the graphics are not as good as they can be because it attracts more people knowing that there computer can handle a todally awsome game. THE GAME ROCKS KEEP IT UP BLIZZARD

On March 24, 2008 at 3:54 pm

i think they should just increase the amount of gold drop. that way we can get better gear and stuff to at least be able to lvl quick and stand up to no life alliance players that keep picking on u while ur low level.
