World’s Biggest Game Collection Up for Auction
Michael Tommason’s video game collection is currently up for sale.
The collection, which was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest on the planet, was put up for sale yesterday at the game auction site GameGavel. The auction is set to run until June 15th, at the end of which the highest bidder will take owenrship of more than 11,000 video games as well as a world record. Tommason is apparently selling his collection to help his family.
“While I do not wish to part with these games, I have responsibilities that I have made to others and this action is how I will help meet them,” he said. “No worries, I’ve sold my collection many times in the past and still managed to capture Guinness’ attention, and it is entirely possible that I may again.”
Tommason’s collection took more than 25 years to accumulate and contains more than 2,600 factory shrink-wrapped games along with another 8,300 complete with their boxes and manuals. The collection also includes dozens of complete and incomplete gaming consoles and has been featured in countless publications, including GameFront. The winning bidder will also receive a lifetime subscription to Retro Magazine. At the time of this writing the current high bid is $9,500.
