WoW Patch 5.2 Is the New Patch 2.4 Plus Dinomancers (!)
For those of you that played World of Warcraft before the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, you’ll remember Patch 2.4 well. The Fury of the Sunwell patch introduced the Isle of Quel’Danas, a blood elf-themed land that opened up progressively as players collectively completed daily quests culminating in the unlocking of new raid content. Created to hold over players until Wrath was launched, it was generally lauded as engaging and fun, though a bit repetitive due to the daily quest mechanics.
Patch 5.2 notes have hit the public test realms this week and the major highlight is…a new island with progressively unlocking content utilizing a daily quest mechanic culminating in new raid content. There are improvements since the 2.4 patch including daily content for PvP players as well as PvE and blacksmiths will get access to a new forge that allows them to create never before seen weapons to aid in the new raid content. Twelve new raid targets across 4 wings will be introduced with a 13th target for those that finish the first dozen in Heroic mode. These all center around Lei Shen the Thunder King.
And what’s a new raid tier without fancy new raid armor? Wowhead has datamined the look of the new gear for all the classes. The new monk class got a particularly cool set of armor as well as the priest class. For those classes that don’t like their new look, there’s always the transmogrification feature to keep the cosmetic look of previous armor sets.
Along with various class tweaks, rogues are getting substantial buffs to increase their popularity. Census reports show the back stabbers to be one of the least popular classes to play. Recently, Blizzard introduced an extensive epic weapon quest for rogues culminating in a pair of spectacular legendary daggers. But it’s going to take more than flashy knives to revive the class and the devs are hoping the latest round of buffs will encourage players to roll a rogue or take an old one out of mothballs.
In addition to all this there is also new mounts, new companion pets, new scenarios, and new factions to grind. Also, for those players who have been enjoying the daily maintenance of their own plot of land via the Sunsong Ranch, you will soon be able to use it as a hearthstone spot. And finally, but most importantly, dinomancers. Yes, you read that right. Ferocious, magically enhanced dinosaurs are coming to WoW. Out of place? Probably, but it sounds like fun. And that’s not all. Blizzard has pointed out that this first round in testing is not all they have in store for Patch 5.2
