If you’re playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on PC, then you can benefit from the great tweakability (that’s right; Colbert isn’t the only one who can invent words) of the Unreal Engine and it’s .ini files.

In this post, you’ll find a collection of the .ini tweaks we discover for this great game.

READ FIRST

The files we’ll be working with are located in the following directory:

C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\XCOM – Enemy Unknown\XComGame\Config

Your exactly directory may vary, but the key is to locate your My Games folder in your Documents or My Documents folder and NOT edit the .ini files found in your game installation folder.

When you edit a .ini file, make sure you are not presently running XCOM, and that you save the file before you run the game.

Also, ALWAYS back up your .ini files before editing them.

1. Disable Startup Movies

If you’d like to go straight from double-clicking XCOM’s icon to viewing the main menu without having to sit through all of those startup movies, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open XComEngine.ini
  2. Search (CTRL+F) for “StartupMovies=”
  3. Add a “;” at the beginning of every instance of that search term. The result should look like “;StartupMovies=”

2. Disable Mouse Lag

If you feel some slight mouse lag, this may remove the issue:

  1. Open XComEngine.ini
  2. Search (CTRL+F) for “OneFrameThreadLag=True”
  3. Replace the word “True” with “False”

ok since Borderlands 2 and XCom are both from 2K and have the same .ini file ive tried to use the BL2 tweaks on the XCom game this is what ive found that worked with both games :

the “Disable Shadows and Lighting to Boost Performance” tweak works… BUT the squad members do not have any color like in the first game rendered cutscene (the one where delta 3 was pointing the light to the infected)

the “Enable/Disable Reflections” also works i dont know what it does in-game since i was messing about before i actually started the game

i bet the “Boost Texture Resolutions” tweak also works but i haven’t tried because well i dont have a “high-end gaming pc”… but i think you can also decrease the quality with that tweak too

what DIDNT work :

the “Disable Black Outline Shader” and the “Disable Cel Shading” doesnt work i have tried it it just crashes the game
