Xi3′s Piston Steambox Now Available For Pre-Order

Valve has big plans to take on the console gaming market, and it’s doing so through the release of the Steam Box–a computer with a tiny form factor.

The Piston is the size of a grapefruit and was first announced at CES this past January.

Xi3′s Piston, which is unofficially the first Steam Box, is being heavily financed by Valve—which is developing its own Steam Box in-house—is set to launch this holiday season in late 2013. The Piston carries a starting price of $1,000 and its makers are currently accepting preorders with a $100 discount offer for those who place their orders before March 18.

“Clearly, the computer/video gaming market is huge, both in the personal computer and traditional console markets,” Xi3 CEO Jason Sullivan said. “That being said, we believe there is a crying need for a machine that captures the best of both worlds, with the upgradeability of computer gaming rigs and the design and form factor of consoles. We believe our Piston Consoles do exactly that-deliver the beauty and small size of consoles with the upgradeability of computers.”

LMFAO.
Are they crazy? Do they know what kind of world we live in today. Last time I checked we all are not millionaires. Plus even some millionaires wont buy this.

But I’m waiting for the catch on this. If I was selling this Power supply for 1000 bucks I have to have something backing it up.

So here it goes…They are going to announced Half Life 3 for this and its ONLY exclusive to it. Mark my words on this.

Remember when PS3 launched and they were demanding six hundred dollars for it in the states?
Does anyone else remember when people nearly laughed them off the stage?

Of course the PS3 system launched during the biggest economic boon in recorded history.
We are now in the biggest economic crash [sadly] in a century.

Were nearly 55% of people graduating from college have moved back in with their parents because of the sheer weight of their debt owed [ages 18 to 30]

The sad thing is I can point out stats all day that state that people are spending less than ever, especially in the games market because of the “luxury” of gaming. These guys are still going to launch their gaming platform and when and if it fails [which is fairly likely] they are going to blame the consumer for their own hubris.
