Become Emperor in The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls lore tells us that Tamriel’s emperors don’t have it easy, what with all the assassination attempts, imprisonment in other realms, and Daedra to deal with. Still, if you want to wear the crown, you can fight to win it in The Elder Scrolls Online.

In an interview with OXM, Bethesda announced that TESO PvP players have the chance to become Emperor of the Empire. Along with the title, the emperor will be granted a powerful “full skill line” that the player will keep for their character’s entire life in TESO.

“It won’t be easy to become Emperor, but we think people will be glad they worked for it,” Game Director Paul Sage told OXM.

Here’s how you can gain the throne: kills, heals, and taking control of keeps in TESO PvP awards Alliance points. Conquer a keep and your territory will expand. If your Alliance (faction) manages to take control of all of the keeps surrounding the Imperial City, the player with the most points in that Alliance will be named emperor. Bethesda noted that in addition to the individual emperor awards, there will be a range of bonuses and benefits for all Alliance players with an emperor.

Sounds like a great idea and a terrific incentive to get TESO players into PvP. It’s worth nothing 2012 MMORPG Tera included a complex political system where guild leaders could become king (Vanarch). TESO’s twist seems much more straightforward. No word yet from Bethesda if there will be a PvE emperor in TESO or if that title will be for PvP players only.

We’ll see how it all shakes out soon. The Elder Scrolls Online (rumored to cost Zenimax a cool $200 million) is set for launch on PC in April.
