You Do the Maths; Is Kinect as Good a Value as the Wii?

“The price thing itself depends on how you look at it. It’s £129.99 RRP but it comes with a game within that price – so Adventures will be packed in with the camera.
“If you buy it with the console which normally costs £149.99, [the package price is] £249.99 with the Kinect and the games – another 100 pound on top.”

“I’ll let you do the maths but when you say Nintendo Wii or PlayStation Move you buy this and this, even for a two player games.
“What do you need and what do actually have to spend for a two player game for this device versus that device. You actually find that [Kinect] is very competitively priced.”

That’s what Brett Siddons of Microsoft told Tech Radar. I’ll do the maths myself in American dollars since that’s what I’ll be paying with. America woooo!

OK, the assumption here is that you have no console. In that case, the Wii, with Wii Sports Resort, is $200, and an extra Wiimote with MotionPlus and a Nunchuck will run you $70. Total is $270.

A Playstation Move bundle with Sports Champions and a console is $399, and you’ll need to get at least one more Move controller for two-player games. We’ll be kind an assume the $349 bundle will exist, and so minimum cost is about $400.

And a 4gb 360 slim with Kinect and Kinect Adventures bundled is $299.

So, is Kinect competitively priced? Yes. Surprise!
