You Won’t Have Any “Permanent Squad Members” In Mass Effect 3

Casey Hudson has said that in Mass Effect 3 you won’t have any permanent squad members. What does that mean? He answers that question in the latest BioWare Pulse.

We don’t wanna say, “Yep, here’s all the characters who are permanent squad members,” because, first of all, it doesn’t make sense in a war story, it’s not true to the game, because some characters you might get, and some characters might die, and the discovery of how that’s going to work is so much a part of this story that we don’t wanna spoil that.

I’m not sure how satisfying that answer is, but whatevs. Y’all do what you do. For more of Casey Hudson talking about Mass Effect 3, watch the full episode of Pulse, which I have embedded below.

I think he’s a ing idiot. I wouldn’t play Mass Effect at all if it weren’t for the amazingly vivid characters. Almost everyone will agree the characters drive Mass Effect more than the story itself does.

The point he’s driving at is we lose a good portion of suspense and care for characters when were told straight up who lives, who dies by divulging who’s permanent or not. Besides, I’d play regardless of this information.

This stinks of ”save your squadmate or let X(XXX) number of people die to save your squadmate or kill X squadmate to save Y squadmate” scenario.

Sick and tired of those…
