You’ll Be Able To Permanently Lose Your Money In The War Z

One of the more frustrating things about F2P MMOs is the ability for players to purchase victory by using real world marketplaces to acquire good and equipment free players must tediously grind to get. (Granted, this is solid business, since the marketplace earns the developer money). So how to balance things out? The makers of War Z have settled on a method that makes me want to hi five but must surely drive people nuts – take away your purchased items if you die. Cinemablend has the scoop via an interview with Hammerpoint Interactive’s Alex Josef, who told them:

Yes, you’ll lose what you have in your backpack when you die – both in Normal and Hardcore modes. And yes, if you bought something using real money, you’ll lose that item as well. This is a price you’ll have to pay.

We’ve discussed that a lot and at the end decided that this will provide a pretty good incentive for players to either be extra cautious while playing, or just not spend too much money in the game and, instead, try to procure all items by finding them in the game world.

I’ve nothing much to add to this except ‘cool’.

That’s pretty harsh on losing bought weapons. From a business perspective, you’d think you’d want to encourage people to buy weapons so they DON’T lose them. This only discourages paying the company, imo. Also, is there any PVP in this game? I can just see the griefers now if there is…

@ Sharkey
They stated that you can only but stuff like cosmetics and food/water. Nothing that pouts the player to much of an advantage except they have to grind a bit less. And yes theres a whole lotta PVP potential. But yea I think this is a bad move by them because if I bough something cosmetic cause I wanted to make my toon look a bit cooler im sure as hell not goin to buy it now if I know im goin to lose it when I die, which if anything like Day Z, it is goin to happen for sure.

Wow this is such a horrible idea and it WILL bite them in the ass. Its almost like they dont want this game to succeed.

If they make the items that are real world money cheap enough, unlike other F2P games I have seen, where its alot to get something, if they have a lower price, you may by a pimp hat for your toon 10 times for a buck a time, but not 10 bucks per time. I for one, don’t buy anything real world in these games, now if they have some “buy this from this site and get something here” deal, I may as then I feel I’m getting more for my money, then great.
