Your Iron Man Exoskeleton is Here; Still No Sign of Thor’s Hammer or Cap’s Shield
California based Forcetek is showing off the first piece of its new motion controller system – the XIO: Virtual Gaming System at E3 this year. Apparently the arm control unit will use precision positioning sensors to detect and translate the gamer’s movement into in-game action. There is very little real information on the system (like compatibility or cost) but it seems aimed at sports gaming and physical rehabilitation more than as an over-engineered PS3 Move replacement.
Forcetek’s XIO Press Release claims that the XIO will “dramatically shake up the video console industry, a landscape dominated by Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, with the introduction of a system that requires no console and puts the player closer to reality than ever before.” We’ll see about that, but it is a promising technology if it one day leads to the adoption of telepresesnce robot armies we can send to hunt down our enemies or our defend us from our invading alien overlords
