Hey all, just need to ask an easy question: which .con do I edit to convince Defgun, Naval and Arty A.I. to actually fire at its targets? Let's use Omaha Beach as an example -- I've looked in /mapmap/AI/Strategies.con and didn't see anything in there about the Fletch or the Defguns, but I want them both to shell enemies. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I dont know much about editing.

But if you want the AI to fire for you, dont they have to be able to see their targets visually. As far as then calling in targets Im not sure they are even capable of doing that.

The thing is that the EOD_TP AI does what I'm talking about, and does it ferociously -- but I can't get the Forgotten Hope AI to do it. (Yes, I've made OHB compatible with FH, just for my own personal use, as well as Aberdeen, Battle of Britain and Battleaxe, so far.) The thing is, I can't figure out what the difference is, why the EOD_TP mod does defguns and naval strikes but FH doesn't. XWWII doesn't seem to do it, either, and for realism mods that's a wide-open realism gap that needs to be filled in.

If you increase the maxRange in the defgun/ai/weapons.con and raise the weaponTemplate.setStrength for all valid targets the bots should fire alot more. These are located in the objects.rfa. I have done this with all the stationary and vehicle mounted MGs and now the gunners fire at ground targets, light armor, Infantry, and planes. below is an example done on the MG42_unlimited/ai/weapons.con: [note my in my mod MG42 does aproximately 1/100th of a point of damage to armor - not enough to really do much but it can scratch the paint] rem *** MG 42 *** weaponTemplate.create MG42Unlimited weaponTemplate.burst 1 weaponTemplate.indirect 0 weaponTemplate.minRange 1.0 weaponTemplate.maxRange 325.0 weaponTemplate.weaponActivate PINone weaponTemplate.weaponFire PIFire weaponTemplate.setStrength Infantry 9.0 weaponTemplate.setStrength LightArmour 8.0 weaponTemplate.setStrength HeavyArmour 4.0 weaponTemplate.setStrength NavalArmour 2.0 weaponTemplate.setStrength Submarine 0.0 weaponTemplate.setStrength Air 5.0 While I havent tested it on the defguns you can copy and paste the defgun entry below... ...and test and tweak as needed. It should at least get them to fire more but like I said I havent tested it on the defguns. I have done this with just about every other weapon. It works good on the wespe as well. Also just for kicks... If you lower AT vs. Infantry and raise the pistols vs. Infantry you can get the bots to switch to pistol instead of panzerfausting soldiers. Well, at least most of the time :). Those settings I posted will make the ai fire more, but upon rereading the thread it seems i may have misunderstood what you had asked. If you are asking how to make the ai respond to artillery spotter calls, I dont know. Sorry if I caused confusion. I had been reading through and editing cons for many hours when I posted so my brain not worky too good. :)

What is a defgun? Do you mean deck gun? As far as AI goes, if you are playing either a sp or MP co-cop game I have yet to get a forward observer when I have a howitzer. And when Im a scout and I give coordinates, the AI never fire. In SP I have had Battleships or destroyers fire at me from the ocean
