Im trying to chrome a yak9 but the black part turns black again when you back away but its chrome up close anyone know how to fix this?
well, I guess you use the alpha channels and if it's the case, well...the chromw effect disappears when the plane is in shadows but....well...if when you said back up you meant really really back up then it's because you need to edit the LOD file too
wheres the lod file at i looked but i couldent find it
(a LOD file is a .DDS file, not a .LOD in case that was what you were thinking) well it's in the texture folder, like for the P51 the name's : LOD_P51_H.dds
When you are done editing your skin, save it and then open it back up. When asked if you want to Display MipMap with image, choose "Yes". Select the 128x128 mipmap, and copy it as a new layer on to the LOD (Level Of Detail...this is low detail version of the skin) file and save it.
I have seen the problem you are having when I edited a few planes, also, and I think it comes from the different lightmaps that are used by the different game maps. The shiniest I have gotten is on the Wake Island Map, while the Coral Sea map gives me almost no shine (even with the same alpha settings). Try editing the lightmaps on your map and see if it makes a difference...
hey don't whine about Coral Sea Takiwa, I tried chroming something for Monte Cassino... dumbest thing ever, looked up into the sky and realized it was night time :assimilate: No chrome for me lol

Okay do this. When it asks if you want "mip maps" select no. Then go into the alpha channel and edit then make sure when you are saving that the "Create Mip Maps" is selected. That way you don't have to edite every little mip map on the screen. Also you'll want to edit the LOD_(Vechicle Name).dds. this is the texture that the vehicles use when far off on the horizon.
Hope this helps.
I think what the original poster was talking about is when you have a triangle face on an angle, you lose the chrome effect. I did a Mustang skin that did the same thing - chrome turned black at certain angles. If you back off of either the brightness or contrast (can't remember which one) when you make the alpha, it will show as grey (or whatever the shined color is) instead of black...
