After much buggering around, I have managed to get the Merciless 3 mod working with the 1.2 patch.
Go to your BF1942 folder, Mods BF1942 Archives
Using RFA Extractor, Extract Menu.rfa to this directory, and rename original Menu.rfa to Menu.bak
Merciless now works a treat in SP and MP (did for me anyways).
Trying it now, if this works I will give you a hug - who ever you are!
/* waits in anticipation */
Damn it, just screwed something upo - arghg!
Can you check I am doing this right.
1. unpak the merciless 3.2 mod rather than using auto install 2. copy the archive directory from the temp merciless directory and copy it to the BF1942/mods/ directory replacing the current archive. 3. doesnt this replace the menu.rfa automatically because the unpak'd merciless file already has the new menu?
Am now trying the guide from here; http://bf1942forums.gameservers.nl/showthread.php?s=&postid=84389#post84389
I had the mod installed before I patched - maybe this is the difference. If you install it after you applied the patch, the file structure is different, so it may put the files in the wrong place.
Can you try a fresh install, patch to 1.1, install the Merciless, patch to 1.2, and then do what I did in the first post ?
(Long winded I know, but this is the ssequence I have used)
Soz, if it's buggered up your current install :(
Bids, np, I appreciate your help. In fact I already did that. But what happens is that the original merciless auto install creates the files in the archive directory. The 1.2 patch then creates the mods directory making the old c:\bf1942\archive directory redundant since its left behind by the c:\bf1942\mods\archive directory.
Its crazy I have looked at 3 websites for BF1942 and all have this topic running thru them. The Merciless mod is VERY popular. Imagine if Valve had done this to the counter strike team?
Its deeply disappointing.
Any ideas? Could you post a screen shot of your directory structure by any chance? Thanks anyway.
One other thnig to try is that I didn't auto-install. I manually extracted the RFA's, and then copied the files to the respective directories, renaming the menu.rfa on the way. When I was playing about, there are two menu directories - one in the root BF1942 folder, and one in the Bf1942\mods\bf1942\archives folder. Mine are now identical. Worth a try ?
(Don't wanna sound patronising but I did all this in a copied directory of my main, so I didn't f-up my 'main' folder until I knew how to get it to work).
Oh,and one other thin Tommy - not sure your comment on leaving the old structures rudundent is right. The loading screens off the Merciless Mod need to be loaded into the Root Menu/Texture/Load directory - not the Mod one. Dunno why this works like this, but it works for me now - one slight problem is the background of the main menu don't work when you first fire up BF. But after entering a map, and going back to the menu screen, the Merciless background appears. Weird.
If you don't have any joy, let me know, and I'll FTP my entire directory structure for you to have a look - won't be until tomorrow now though - gotta get down the pub soon :)

Did prowlinger mention when he will be done with the mod for 1.2?
