Im a new skinner and id like to do planes but i cant put in the rivets or anything because i dont know how could sould any of you good skinners give me some tips on how to do this??

Panel lines and rivets in BF1942 can be tackled two ways. One is to use the ones that are already in the game, and two is to find a decent 3-View drawing of the plane you are skinning and make your own...depends on how accurate you want it to be ;)

Either way, you simple create a layer on top of the original skin, and, using the line tool and a 1 or 2 pixel paintbrush, draw over the panel lines and rivets off the original. Once you are done, make a copy of that layer, paste it under that layer, and use the blur tool to give a nice shadow effect. Now, merge the 2 layers, copy them, and paste them as a new image. Save this image, and whenevr you need the paneling for that plane, open it up and copy it. You can play with the opacity once you paste it onto your new design...really simple, huh? ;) It's time-consuming, but it pays off in the end :)
