I think it did get a lot of recognition in terms of how long it was out. What we have to remember is that this game was created a long time ago and so obviously games that are released now e.g AOE3 will get more recognition because there are more people in the gaming industry to give it the recognition, if you know what i mean. The only mistake they made with AOE2 is closing down it's multiplayer. This angered quite a lot of players who were left without clients to play multiplayer on. I mean, they said that there wasn't many of them left but there was at least a good 2000 if not more. Another thing was hacking. There was too many hacks going about and ES did nothing to prevent them nor did zonemaster.

It did get a lot of recognition, but it was several years ago, and has thus slipped from the minds of many gamers.

I also liked AoE2 better than 3. I still play it sometimes. Awesome game.

Yeah, I wish good older games weren't forgotten about so easily. A good game is a good game, even if it has less polygons, or even *gasp* SPRITES!

Old games still have followers and communities. Often these branch into open-source variants, like FreeCiv (based on Civilization 1) or OpenTTD (based on Transport Tycoon).

The AoE2 community is small, but it's loyal.

And btw, the average rating for AoE2 was 91%. See Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings Reviews for the details.

Yea i like AOE2 heaps more than AOE3 as well :) ... AOE2 for its graphics is an awesome game. one of the best features i like is the ability to have huge maps.. unlike most AOE3 maps :(.. anyways yea i believe AOE2 recieved a lot of recognition for its time. i dont think AOE3 has nearly as much overall respect..:bows:AOE2
