hey there, i've been browsing for awhile, and just recently joined. i've been playing RTCW (both demo and full) and ET since theyv'e been released. i was wondering if some of you have better positions on your keyboards for different tasks (ie: weapons, jump, crouch, etc) i think i went with what i felt was good for me at the time; but watching other players do the same moves, alot faster, got me thinking that there must be a better setup. right now, this is me: A= MOVE LEFT D= MOVE RIGHT S= JUMP C= PRONE Q= NADE W= SPECIAL WEAPON 1 E= TWO-HANDED WEAPON Z= SCOPE F= USE X= BACKWARD LEFT MOUSE= ATTACK RIGHT MOUSE= FORWARD SCROLL BUTTON (PRESS)= RELOAD SPACE BAR= CROUCH all the number keys for weapons are also at default any help to improve my gamin experience would be appreciated! thnx, rebel
I made my own script to simulate an altbind function using the +vstr command (not vstr). I hold down alt and some keys switch functions. For example, the numbers 1-5 are weaponbanks 1-5, but when I hold alt and press any of them, they are my class selection buttons. So basically I have about 1.5X as many keys as most people (not 2X, some keys you don't want to have alternate functions, like your movement keys.)
I have a 5-button mouse, so I can select almost any gun from the mouse: mouse1 = shoot mouse2 = weapalt mouse3 = main gun (click scrolly wheel) scroll up = pistol scroll down = grenades mouse4 = medpack, ammo, dynomite, etc. (button is on the left side of mouse, under the thumb toward the back) mouse5 = needle, airstrike, pliers, etc. (button is right in front of mouse4) alt+mouse3 = adrenaline/mines alt+scroll up = zoom in alt+scroll down = zoom out alt+mouse1 = instant artillery strike (field ops only) Also, alt + mouse4 and mouse5 have special functions for each class.
hmmm....playin against ppl like you could explain why i die so fast in fire fights...lol. thnx for the info, i think maby i'll go price a 5-button mouse!
As for my keyboard setup, I use standard wasd movement, and... F = use / put away stat/topshots/command map q and e = lean r = reload c = crouch / uncrouch* x = prone / stand up* space = stand up / jump* shift = run caps = walk 1-7 = weaponbanks, though I use the mouse scrpts to select the weapons anyway ctrl and z = topshots and stats, set on toggles g = command map, toggled v = quickchat tab = scores t = teamchat y = allchat u = fireteam chat b = binoculars toggle, right mouse2 turns off binoculars h = playdead on shrub mod [ = join Allies ] = join Axis ' = go spectator alt+1-5 = select class and weapon ins, del, home, end, pgup, pgdn = select spawnpoint kp_plus = volume up kp_minus = volume down kp_star (thins thingy: *) = mute/unmute f12 = kill** f10 = disconnect** f9 = quit** alt+F1-F4 = vote y/n, ready/notready alt+F = limbo menu
*I use my own custom stance script to make the stances how I like them, i.e press c once to crouch, again to stand up, spacebar stands up from any stance, etc. **I have a script that makes you hit these twice, so you don't do any of them by accident.
And yes, get a 5-button mouse (I have a Mircosoft optical wired 5-button mouse). You'll never go back. The best part is that ET actually recognizes mouse4 and 5, so you don't have to do any elaborate tricks to use the extra buttons, like you do in other games. In other games, i set those two buttons to be equivalent to hitting period and comma on the keyboard and then bind those keys.
:bows: holy smokes! looks like u put a lot of time and effort into binding your keys! :type: lol, i'm happy if i have enough of the basic keys committed to memory! i haven't really spent much time at figuring out the whole "binding the keys and learning the lingo for the console" (yet) :uhm: but, i do think the 5-button mouse will free up some choices on the keyboard, so, i'm gonna pick one up this week. thanx 4 your help! rebel
