Hello! I have owned Age of Empires 3 for awhile now....and very much enjoy it. However, I uninstalled it a few months ago, and now, when I go to reinstall it, something strange happens. It goes through the whole installation page (however after the first attempt it skipped entering the activation key) and started to install a file called "art3.bar." It shows that it is installing this file for about the whole installation process! However, at the end of it, a message pops up saying that there was an error and "art3.bar" cannot be found! I was wondering if anyone could help, or perhaps give me the file? And would the company resend me the game (or at least the first disc) so that I could reinstall it?

Please try the following:

1. Verify your machine meets the min. spec, all your drivers are updated. Then Download the standalone patch for 1.0 -> 1.03, for your language version. 2. Completely uninstall the game. Make sure all previous installation attempts are removed. Check the installation folder and make sure there are no file in there. 3. Reboot using a "Clean Boot" procedure detailed here 4. Empty your Temp folder, and verify the age3 registry keys are removed; they are: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires 3 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires 3

5. If the "Age of Empires III" folder under "Program Files\Microsoft Games" is still present, delete it. Also make sure the My Documents\My Games\ age of empires 3 folders is deleted. (If you want to save your skirmish cities and save games you should back this up) 6. Defragment your Hard drive 7. Disable any anti-virus software/firewall that might possibly block/interfere with the installation... 8. Attempt to Install retail game.

If the installation does finish then:

9. After the installation, make sure you have ~1.4 gig free on your drive. 10. Install the patch downloaded earlier. 11. Reboot (you might try another clean boot here) 12. Try launching the game
