Don't you just hate when you're trying to build a fleet, an enemy ship warps straight past, and when you're not looking your AI-driven fleet gives chase, straight into enemy territory, and get themselves killed? Or when you tell a ship to hold its position and it ignores you, and goes and gets itself killed? Or when you tell a ship to go back to base for repairs, and it decides to stop and get itself killed? Or when you are attacking a base or small installation, look away for a second to do something, you look back, and all your ships have gotten themselves killed? Or when you post some ships to guard an important base, they ignore you and fly away, and not only get themselves killed but the station they were defending as well? I do!!! Do you hate anything?
that's soo true 'bout strategy games. but if u want the AI to be like-human, uhum, it'll take a long while to program somethin' really intelligent. we'll have to stay with what we have. for the moment.
btw, ever thought what it'll be if we put any game's enemy's AI (let's say FPS games) into those robots (or androids) that Honda and/or Toyota are creating/building... Terminator.
There's a few things that annoy me about Armada 2, and I'll list my top 10 for you. :assimilate: 1. When you've told a ship to STOP firing because you want to capture what it's firing at, it promply ignores you and pumps a transphasic torpedo or 5 in, destroying it 2. When a ship you've installed properly sits there in a typical 'duh' move after being told you want it OVER THERE :bouncy: 3. When, for fun you activate the self-destruct seqence but can't turn it off again, resulting in your pride ship going BOOM :sarrow: 4. When your ships cloak, then decloak for no apparent reason 5. When ships stop, sit there, and then refuse to accept commands until shot at 6. When you unintentionally destroy a starship that's gotten stuck i.e. the bugger won't stop 7. When you've gotten your torpedo turrets to fire pretty new torpedoes, you test them on a ship and the stupid turret won't stop firing 8. When you've just managed to sneak a cloaked starship into your opponent's base, and are about do decloak and deal some damage, when at that exact moment, the computer 'conveniently' builds a Tachyon Detection grid, and you watch as your ship is blown to bits 9. Venture Class starships - they're little, and they're annoying! Why people had to invent them in the first place I'll never know :micro: 10. When you've gone to all the trouble of copying files everywhere and A2 unknowingly tells you "you have a different version of the game. You're not supposed to mod our game, blah blah blah"
3. When, for fun you activate the self-destruct seqence but can't turn it off again, resulting in your pride ship going BOOM
LMAO, I can think of a reason why you may be asking for that one :p

Sometimes you think in a desperate situation which calls for desperate actions, only to find the problem solved, perhaps by an allied fleet coming to help.
My main gripe about A2 is how the ships feel too expendable. You can barely capture them anymore. Now you make think I am nuts, but I don't even like losing crew. Basically what I would have liked in A1 is the log from A2, some sort of warp feature and the 3D map.
You should change a few .odf files. You'd be surprised at how long you can make ship-to-ship fights last...
If you like capturing starships, I found this neat little weapon somewhere - I probably searched for it in Google, I dunno.
Regardless, get the Thaleron radiation thingo and start blasting the hell out of starships. The crew will die instantly, leaving you with a starship intact, that you can take over!
Another A2 hate: sometimes the starships just SIT there after being told 'kill, my pretties' as if the crew are acting like "Okay, the red one ejected the warp core, let's try orange! No, wait, that was shields...."

I have edited the .ODFs, but it still isn't as fun as A1.
A1 just seemed more realistic after you tweaked the shields and such to make them cannon. Plus it had better graphics.
I've been looking all over for A1, damn shops where I live are useless for Star Trek games... I think I got A2 from some computer vendor somewhere in Sydney and haven't stopped playing it since.... anyone know any GOOD shops where they might have A1 in stock?
i got it at ebgames but i had to get the star trek action pack that comes A1 A2 and Elite Force plus its expansion.
