What, did you reduce the disabled sensor range, or something more elaborate? Either way, my first guess is the AI coordinates/triangulates sensor data from other ships/old sensor info to keep targeting you. I know that sounds generic, but we need to know what you changed before we can tell you what's going on...

I reduced the disabled sensor range in the craft.odf so it reads //This is the range in meters which the ships sensors can see (LOS) rangeScan = 600.0f //ships sensors cant see when destroyed damagedScan = 0

Yep. If you'll notice, anytime ships are locked onto an enemy target (whether it's a player or AI), even if they loose sight of it, they'll usually keep tracking (depending on your alert/movement settings). It seems to be part of the engine. I don't think they should be able to keep firing on a ship they can't see, but I'm not sure. Either way, I think the AI will know where the ship is, and be able to follow it. At least to a certain distance. There may be a setting, somewhere, telling the AI how long to track a target. Check the AI files (do a search for things like "tracking distance". If not, you may be stuck with it. Only thing else I can suggest is set the damagedScan = 0 to damagedScan = 1. It may help if there's an actual reading, instead of 0. Hope this makes sense.
