the Starfleet Kid;4897857I don't know; if I want to see this kind of improvement, I don't want to see it stop at simply using old models with new .ODF content-- I can do that, and have been doing that for years.
As have we all, no? I am unsure what you mean. IIRC, a lot of the ships in the Comp Mod come from a whole host of mods which have been available for a very long time, such as BIVR. You and I had a whole series of conversations via MSN about whether or not we would ask Major Payne for permission to use the Akira I have which is based upon the one in BIVR. You chose not to use it. But some of the older ships available here were done right the first time. Giving them a new ODF may very well be all someone is capable of. Publicly discouraging someone from releasing a mod for any reason has not been your style in the past. Why the change?
...If you can deliver that, with a minimum of whining and attention-seeking in the forums...

All modders whom share their work publicly are attention-mongers. Granted some more than others. We've said to this each other about nearly everyone here via MSN on more than one occasion, IIRC. And we've said it about ourselves to each other as well, have we not? I've never denied the little thrill I get when someone such as Achilles or Freyr tells me publicly "Good Job!" Or when someone who was a lurker sends me a PM asking for permission to use something I did in their own first publicly released mod. But I've wandered off again, so let me come back to what I really want to ask you.

Does the above statement by you as a Staff Member in a public post in this Forum indicate an official change in policy at A2Files Forums concerning the continued existence of Mod Update Threads or Mod Error Reporting Threads in the Forums? Both types of threads qualify as 'whining and attention-seeking' based upon what you posted. Please clarify this.

Yep, they are now both banned. Additionally, as this will probably reduce visible activity to make up for the lack of activity every member will be required to spend at least 6 hours a week gaming (online) in Armada II.

As the majority of stock gameplay pictures don't look that good comparatively POTD's will be limited to screenshots of particularly painful devastation of someone else, or the admirals logs of the battle. The files section shall be cleared to make room for a section displaying saved admirals logs, and likewise with the news to make way for announcements of tourneys, clan wars and other related gaming events.

Finally, Yes, that was a joke. ( [/humor] )

More seriously, I think that he meant he'd actually like to see it released rather than seeing another mod that promises a lot, produces lots of nice screenies, raises expectations for seeing something released and then gets releases pushed back until it vanishes into a black hole. (ie; K7's Dogs of War) I know I certainly do!

Personally, i'd greatly like to see more smaller mods that actually get released. Smaller projects get released within a very short timeframe compared to monolithic TC's and I tend to find them as, if not more interesting than full ones. They can also then be slotted together by different modding teams to make a larger mod.

Oh Noes! I has caused Freyr to speak a joke! In public no less! Meesa tinks dis is a bombad grave disturbance in the A2Files Forums! I didn't mean it to come out this way! Honest! =p

Thanks for the clarification, I really do appreciate it. I agree with you. I think the time for humongous, universe-spanning mods which promise much and deliver little is past. There is a great deal of good content already available which could be adjusted to work together quite well. There are plenty of unexplored avenues with ships, backgrounds, game play and file tweaks left.

If you all need a beta tester let me know. I think this will work pretty good from what I'm hearing. Granted I don't yet know as much as most everyone else on here but I do know I don't like seeing mods that promise alot and get put off or flat out stink. I haven't been on here until recently for over 2 years and I didn't like the mods that didn't deliver even then.

I think it is important for mod creators to share their work and ideas via the forums on the various sites in the A2 Community. Modding first and foremost is about the community, creating something new to share with the community and on a personal level to do something the modder/modeller wants to do.

Sharing it and getting feedback is very important otherwise I don't see much point of even visiting forums otherwise. The community is just that a community, communicating ideas and creating friendships and sharing our love for something, in this case a computer game.

Most people who never create anything are usually just people who come in and show off something and never return to release it and it can be frustrating, but some especially people who have been in the community for years do eventually release what they have even if it's incomplete. For example, Ash releasing a lot of unused content for Zero Hour, I have also released a lot of content from Parallels, and have plans to released the BSG stuff later when I find it on my HD again. I also released by incomplete MSFC Dominion Mod which had some new content that wasn't available at the time.

While many mods are never released, it's unfortunate but this is a hobby and not a job. Real life steps in and interupts. This time last year I was a single male now I am an engaged man, with 3 step-children. That is just a prime example how real life can change things for a modder.

I and Syf have been working on YY for 3 years this coming September we have had many set backs but are still working on it and in fact out of the 8 races we have two are almost completely finished. This is with just two of us (who are fathers and family men) working when we can. In fact I got the last Federation stations just a couple of days ago from Syf, proving that the mod is still in production to those who thought it was dead and who don't visit MSFC.

A mod usually takes several years to complete a total conversion that is, especially when new models and textures are concerned. It takes a large amount of time and effort to complete a new model and get it game ready, not something one can do over night. Although sometimes it looks that way.

Well enough of my ranting I just felt being a rather busy man who is making mods, running a website and being a father and soon to be husband it might enlighten some on the pressures and time consuming factors that can take one away from their mods.

As for SFC3's mod idea, I say go for it and my suggestion is focus on one race at a time and then release it, like Achilles has done with AOW. It gives you feedback and increased motivation to move forward. ;)

Don't forget the Reman Rebellion Full Race Mod, that mod after I installed it and all of its patches randomly started crashing to the desktop and it wasn't just with that race but with the stock races and the other races I added before them. These crashes randomly occured when selecting stations to use them. I haven't even been able to get to build the Advanced Shipyard or second research station. This crashing problem even happens when I do nothing and let the AI play the game.
