There is currently a discussion going on in the private network staff forum and I was wondering if people could just help settle a point of some disagreement.
A member of the network staff from another site is convinced that there are a large number of people in the forums of any given network site that don't realise that there is a network site associated with the forum.
If your response to that is bewilderment, don't worry, your not alone because i'm fairly sure that at least 90% of you know the site exists. =p
Still, to help settle the matter could you answer a quick and easy yes/no question. Are you aware of the website Armada II Files (ie, armada2files.com or armada2.filefront.com)
Yes :D
[IRONY] Um, no? [/IRONY]
Honestly yes and whats what I voted for, though in my honest opinion the forum is part of a site and in some instances is the site for some sites hence why I refer to these forums as Armada 2 Files as the staff here hold some sort of authority hence the rank titles they have and the members come here and talk about topics related to A2Files in someway or another.
My two bobs though.
Yep, it's how I found the forums :) Love the irony option, a classic in my opinion...

I thought i'd give people a chance to participate and be crack a joke without skewing the figures. =p

That's uncanny, I said almost exactly that in the topic in the internal.
The Network Staff group only gives us access to a secret forum where we can plot for world domination, we don't actually get any extra powers over you guys. I can summon a moderator using the "report post" button but last time I needed to do that was well over a year ago now. Generally, I've just relied on simple respect and courtesy since I started, it seems to have worked out pretty well.
I've known for some years now...

Your secret is out! I knew it all along! :D (Mind you, the staff could probably run the world better...)

Well they do say great minds think alike. ;)
Its a shame about the power thing, I mean you guys run A2Files (the site) and I do think you should at leasts get moderator powers over the forums as you do a good job on the site so why not take some pressure off the network staff, but hey each site runs differently. ;)

Believe it or not, I disagree with you. The setup currently requires me to use my weapons-grade vocabulary and persuasive eloquence to maximum capacity in order to diplomatically bring about resolution and general happiness in the community. I prefer it that way.
Part of what makes this community so special, in my mind, is that I can post seven words (those being, "Let's just be cool about this, gentlemen") and expect more of a response than I'd get by locking threads, banning people, and just generally behaving like a fascist. I've seen that approach in too many places, and to be honest, it's part of the reason I kept coming here long enough to rate as staff.
However, what I see as being a grace in this community would be a desperate necessity in others upon this very network. There are far too many self-absorbed tin-plated dictators with delusions of god-hood on this kid's Internet, some of whom I've encountered even in this community from time to time. I've seen what happens when they get their hands on the "edit" and "ban" buttons, and it's a truly despicable transformation. It'll never happen here because there's simply too much community goodwill to go around. But that's why we're still here.
I learned something special at A2Files: Good Internet communities NEVER run from the top down. Bans and edits and warnings are essential.... from time to time. But I prefer the honor system we've got going, to be honest with you. I wouldn't want to lead a community that existed without honor and equality among its membership. But then again, to borrow a line, I wouldn't want to belong to any club that'd have me as a member.
I voted No.. just to make sure its not a complete landslide
