I'm playing armada 1 bvery often in LAN, but 2 of my three XP PCs are making some stupid errors in game. F.E. The sound is hacking or there are some graphics errors. Then the PC says often, thet the LAN-Game is not synchronous. plz hlp!!
Armada 1 is pretty much incompatible with windows xp. Activision even said it out loud in there support pages.
Here is what they said:
Windows NT The game is not compatible with this operating system.
Windows 2000 and XP Not all games are compatible with the new operating system. This product is designed for use with Microsoft Windows 98 and above, Activision cannot guarantee its compatibility with Windows 2000/XP. This product might install on systems using Windows 2000/XP, but it has not been thoroughly tested and certified with the new Microsoft Operating System.
We cannot guarantee that it will work with Win XP, but you can try the following: 1) Right-click on a shortcut of the program 2) Select Properties. 3) Click the Compatibility tab 4) Checkmark the Run in compatibility mode. 5) Try to run it in Windows 95, Windows 98/ME or Windows NT/2000.
This is not a guaranteed fix, but it may help with some of the compatibility problems you may have with Windows XP.
as you can see this is not a total fix for windows xp. but it might help.
I never had any problem running a1 in xp. and ive played online and everything. make sure its updated and stuff like that. something else, what are the specs on all the pcs?? its possible its not xp its something else.
this is very not the 1st time somebody post 'bout tha. i also have problems playing A1 with my XP & i just play it like tha. 'cos i know there's almost nothin i can do. Armada is soo uncompatible wit soo many computers (big mistake by the creators). the big problem is the sound. you can go to the control panel (in XP) & correct it. don't know exactly how. i know for sure the problem is XP. microsoft changed the windows & wit tha, some games who is compatible wit win 95/98 is uncompatible wit XP.
the difference beteween the two versions is the fact 95 and 98 were shell versions of dos. Makeing it easier for you user interface. 2000 and ME began exploreing the areas of replaceing dos completely. XP is the reality of that. If you notice you cannot access dos at all (and i don't mean the command prompt, thats not dos ask any computer programer)
I think its because Armada possibly uses dos codeing. Well XP doesn't have hardly and dos codeing in. THis is an easy fix if you know how to acess the exe stuff and make a patch for it. It would cost Activision very little to patch it for xp and such.
the problem is also 'bout the sound card. if u go to somewhere like it the menu when u insert the disc: troubleshooting, help, audio (somethin like tha), you'll see tha the game is uncompatible wit SoundBlaster & SoundBlaster PRO (except SoundBlaster 16) 7 many other sound cards (don't know wha was the deal wit the creators).
These are the reasons that I no longer play Armada I. I bought Armada I about 2 years ago when I still ran W98. When I got into XP about a year and a half ago, I noticed the same problems. Choppy sound, and graphics that moved vvveeeeerrrryyyyyy ssslloooooowwwwwwwwwlllyy. Almost like Matrix. This happens in 2000 and XP windows. First, the sound. Open Dxdiag. go to the sound tab and turn sound acceleration down to either basic or off. Whichever works best for you. Don't let someone tell you to buy a new soundcard. I have a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum and I still have to do this. It's the game. Don't forget to turn it back up again. Newer games like NASCAR need full acceleration. Second problem, video. go into desktop properties/settings and click the advanced tab. Go to Monitor and set the refresh rate to 60 hz. Or, if you use refresh lock of refresh force or other utility, set the refresh rate for the res you want to play in to 60hz. In otherwords, if you play A1 at 1024x768, set that resolution to 60hz refresh rate. Pain in the butt isn't it? Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVED playing A1. I still like it. But that's why I play Armada 2. You don't have to monkey with it all the time. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the quick replies! I'm using The Elitegroup K7S5A onboard-Sound (C-Media AC97 or so) And the other pc uses the Terratec SixPac 5.1. Both pcs have probs with Sound. Maybe it's DirectX? Another XPpc in my LAN is supporting A1 fully. WHAT's GOING ON THERE????
When my XP needed help with the sounds, cinamatics, and game play for Armada 1, I bought a new graphics card. Before I bought my new graphics card, I got by with using the following commands: Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Playback > Advanced. Then set hardware acceleration to Basic. Don't worry it goes up when you need it, just not down.
You can play both armada games on winxp the reason I am saying this is that I have xp home edition and I can play them also i have an old star trek game called starfleet Acedemy and it works on xp so I have no problem with mine.
