A couple of weeks ago the staff were talking about running a team tourney. I decided to hang fire on announcing anything whilst the whole importer debate was going on as I didn't want this to get overshadowed by it. I think I can safely say that the debate is dead and buried now.
Anyway, SSA and Jolt had originally planned on playing it on 1.1 but I pointed out that it would be totally unfair as it would simply create a big pile of bodies around the Staff as I am rather good at 1.1 multi.
My suggestion was that we play with mods online. This not so much levels the playing field as flattens it, as I seriously doubt that anyone has done real online games on mods before so everybody should be on the same footing.
We then had a bit of discussion about which mods to play with as some (eg. SWFC) are disliked by a vocal minority. In my opinion vocal minorities get their way far to often, and while I am sure they would moan like mad I seriously doubt that any of them would actually play anyway.
Therefore, the question to everybody is which mods would you like to play and would you like to join in?
Your opinion only counts if you want to play, otherwise I don't want to know. The mod can be any that is publicly released and available for download. The mods with the most interest will get played, and we may play on several mods in the course of the tourney.
If your part of a modding team or you have a couple of friends interested in taking part then you can enter as a team for this (teams of 2 or 3) where as if your not and you don't know anybody then just post here and we will get youa partner.
I am aware of the issues caused by timezones and while we haven't picked dates games will be on weekends at a time that anybody can play at. (as in it won't be starting at 0100H in any timezone)
Well, to get the ball rolling. The Armada2Files Staff are taking part as a team and I would like to see SWFC played.
The cake is a lie. There is no cake.

Just to point out, Freyr is in complete control over this - the reposibility for this tourney is up to him, so if it fails...blame him :p In terms of a mod I'd like to play, I would put forward Babylon 5.
I would like to see Borg Incursions played :)

Same here, and I really like the idea about online mods. I just hope that I will be able to be online then they are played, so I could join. With being able, I'm not just talking about the time of day, but also that I'm at any place with computer and internet then this happens. (See summerholiday, since that does sometimes mean going to places where pcs maybe aren't available.)
I'd Say Babylon 5 mod, but only because i've played like dosens of games of it online with friends :p
Fleet Ops beta 2 would also be nice, and yes Freyr this is Remore the one that still wants to get your OP working online so i can fire some heavy photons at you :p
Not good Freyr. Could this great thing wait:( Im gonna be internet less for about a week and a half. great idea though Freyr. And I'll take you on 1v1 any day:p
As for which mod, why just one? We could set this up very complex if we want.
Btw Freyr, this wont be fair for you guys, as Im getting Ved from multi for this one:D Freyr you remember ved right?
I have never played online, so I wouldn't be much of a challenge. But I agree with Joel, Babylon 5 Armada 2 would be a great mod for this.
Guys. Whilst I am flattered by the suggestion of BI being a possibility remember there are problems which exist with the versions that can lead to crashes. PLus they've never been tested in any way shape or form. This also goes for many other mods. Therefore, might I suggest a specialised mod specifically designed and built for this purpose. Yes it might take a while to create but you could include files that are only needed. Almost every mod thats been made has alot of eye candy features and therefore some rethinking might be involved. Eyecandy always causes sometimes severe lag and as such you really need to have a basic "stripped" mod that adds certain features. Not to many ships and a very low amount of additional eye candy (as little as possible), to keep it a bit nearer the original stock style of game.
Just my suggestion BTW.
I agree with MaP. But some mods would work ok. Personally, I would rather such an event to just be played on stock. In reference to my other post, what will the time frame for this tourney Freyr, as I'm gonna be gone for about a week and a half:(http://forums.filefront.com//showthread.php?t=264471&goto=newpost) And its allright if I assemble my own team from the a2 lobby right Freyr?
