Well, since my main install is a haphazard collection of mods slapped together for looks as opposed to playability I'm starting over again. This time my plan is to pretty much leave the stock balance intact, and instead of adding ship, after ship, after ship ontop of what's already there, and winding up with 3 fed shipyards and 30 some-odd fed ships, I'm going to keep it simple. So this got me thinking of the mods that I, metaphorically speaking, couldn't live without, as well as those I'm still meaning to try out. Also got me curious as to what the rest of you have going in your custom installs as well...
Mine, in no particular order: - Neon's Warbird - Midnight Universe 2 (with lens flare patch) - 9of9's Jem'Hadar fighter - Pink blob be gone - Blank pause textures (still doing a newer version of this Freyr or was that in Vanilla Ultimate?) - pretty much anything which was originally by p81 (Winged Defender, Ambassador-class, etc.) - nanofx (although I need to figure out how to scale the explosions properly)
Still to try out (download or have downloaded but still have to install): - A2 Physics Project - Vanilla Ultimate - Art of War (planning to start another install when the next version comes out, want to see how my new computer handles Achilles' insane style of gameplay)
And the other dozens of mods/ships/maps/textures that are out there, a lot of the newer stuff (Dan's spoonhead re-do, Jetfreaks retextures, any of the more recent stuff from Ash, and Icewolf's excellent looking Prometheus) and all the brilliant stuff that's currently WIP or just someone's wacky idea.
Now how about you?
Seems to be a pretty organized list, that's quality stuff right there. Most of the ones listed are in my personal install, though with several bits and pieces from countless mods and TC's.
elevatormusic;4765222 - Blank pause textures (still doing a newer version of this Freyr or was that in Vanilla Ultimate?)
My suspicion that people didn't notice the new version included in the 1.2.* and 1.3.* Upgrade Project releases is confirmed. =p It was one of those little undocumented features in the old releases a couple of years back, but I suspected some people hadn't noticed the second version and released it as a separate mod towards the end of last year.
The new version only removes the pause screen and text so the rest of the game is still playable and you don't need a separate installation for screenshots. You should find it to be a slight improvement. :D
Blank fonts and pause dialog, Star Trek: Armada 2 Downloads, Star Trek: Armada 2 Miscellaneous
Still to try out (download or have downloaded but still have to install): - A2 Physics Project - Vanilla Ultimate - Art of War (planning to start another install when the next version comes out, want to see how my new computer handles Achilles' insane style of gameplay)
Vanilla Ultimate contains a physics project release as well.
Would you do me a favour at some point? Install Vanilla Ultimate and tell us what it looks like compared to your screenshots install.
I too like to keep my personal a2 install nice and simple(as I can make it anyways :p ). Clean is also the word I would use as I don't add anything in unless it has a purpose and just like Jetfreak I too have bits and pieces from major projects(Borg Incursion, Alliances, etc.)most of which comprises mostly of ships that either augment the race's fleet or replace the stocks one's completely. As a matter of fact all ships from my Klingon, Romulan, Dominion/Cardassian, Borg, and Federation race which can be used for engagement has been replaced with better quality one's.
Like you, I have replaced nearly all of the stock ships with something which looks and performs better. I have a few ships which are harvested from some of the more popular TC mods. I also have MU2.0 but with a few adjustments so my laptop doesn't start making all those girly-man squeals whenever I ask it to play A2.
EDIT: EM, where is the lens flare patch at? I've looked for it, but cannot find it. Also you may want to look in this: http://forums.filefront.com/armada-i-ii-discussion/387039-combining-mods-best-looks.html#post4712505. There are a few things you may want to check out.
@Thunderfoot: The lens flare patch is in this thread:http://forums.filefront.com/st-a2-modding-editing/372867-midnight-universe-sun-patch.html
Yeah, I wound up finding that newer version of the blank fonts last night, ironically while searching for the old one.
And sure, I can do a comparison between my screenshot install and Vanilla Ultimate. Just off the top of my head I'd say that the main differences would be in terms of weapon textures and nebulas. VU has a lot of stock weapon replacements I don't have right now in my new install, although I do tend to use my own versions of flares/beams/torpedos/pulses in some cases. Also the nebula textures I use are higher resolutions, and I can't recall if I sent you all the different ones I currently use when you were putting together VU.
But with the exception of the textures I've edited, I'd say they're very, very close.
Hopefully when I'm finished this new install will also be my 'screenshot' install.
At the moment, I don't really play A2 very much. My stock game is just that, its stock. No additions or enhancements at all. There are however, various items I am using in Zero Hour. 1) Pink Blob Be Gone 2) NanoFX 3) Neon's Warbird (best one avaliable for A1/A2) 4) Various P81 items 5) Various items from Aad 6) Various items from Achilles 7) Various items from Avon 8) No Shader Mod 9) Shield Fix and other bits and bobs. Everything I'm using, I've got all the credits stashed away somewhere, is just a case of going through them, and tidying them up. I know I've got a lot of items that I am no longer using within there. I expect I'll be taking a nice long look at Thunderfoot's Physics Project too when I get to a later stage of development.

No kidding-- I had just thought to myself maybe it's time to do exactly what you've described here, from scratch, once again. Then I talked myself out of it 'cause I'll only ever do that if I truly brick my install beyond any hope.... ;)
