I just got back from the pub a few hours after seeing it. I have to say, some aspects of the movie are very similar to the book AvP: Prey. For example the predator blooding himself, then blooding the human female. In fact, one of the only differences I can see in terms of the relationship between the Predator and the woman was that she didn't end up getting on their ship and going with them. I thought some bits were good, for example a couple of the fights. But that's only because it brings the two species to life more. I especially like that the Aliens seem to be a lot more deadly now -- more appropriate to how they were originally dubbed ('perfect killing machines'). A little unrealistic in terms of the laws of physics, like that Predator being waved around by that very thin tail as though he were made of paper.

But in general, I think it's a letdown too. The general story is pretty abysmal -- if they'd set it in the future, as the games, they could probably have come up with a much better story than they did. But alas, the only explanation they could come up with for how both alien species ended up being on Earth already sucked. And butchered several cultures' histories and even the theory of Atlantis in the process. Some of the acting was a little patchy too.

Do you think they had to consult with the Perrys in regards to some of the incredibly similarities between the movie and their book?
