Hi,

My mate currently has a technical problem with armada 2 and activision help wasnt much good so I'm hoping someone will have an idea here.

Anyway he can get into the game and play fine for a while but then randomly the game will crash to a small black window with an illegal operation message and once u press close the game closes, so far we've tried updating drivers, changing desktop res and color bit to 16bit and 640 etc, changing the asyncrounous cursor and even changing the cd drive dma settings all of which recommended on the activision site but none of this has fixed the problem, has anyone got any ideas or has had this problem?

Thanks :)

Has he tried editing some of the game settings i.e. ship/stations odf's sprites or tech files?

It only gets worse when you play the borg campaign. This game is really one of the worst compiled game I have ever seen and the ones who progged this games really needs to be sued because no one is going to get the STA3 now because of their bad experience with this one.

How would tweaking those files help the stability of the game?

ANY editing of the files can result in the BWOD (Black Window Of Death), and if you try to restart the game without restarting your pc you'll receive the Illegal Operation error. A suggestion here would be to try different settings for any game played, graphics, sound etc.etc Also I know this may sound like I'm talking down to someone, but having the latest drivers for ALL hardware can help, and also the very latest Direct X (if using a win9X based OS).

I already have them all. The only reason I bash the proggers is that I have a huge server lan with multiple comps that uses WinNT to Win XP with P3, P4, and Athlon XP CPU. All have Radeon 8500 with 512mb ram, except one with 1024mb ram and Gti4600 and they all crash. I updated the stuff and even talked to their thech support just to find out that I knew more about their gmae than they did :fistpunch:

However I have heard that it is more sable with the older comps, but the game a rather choppy cause they are too slow. I havent tweaked the game yet for I have not beat it yet to start the mods, game keeps crashin on me :uhoh: . I have no probs with any other progs I have.

No one can deny it They have been simply too many complaints on the same issue to deny major flaws with the proggin of the game. Its way too big to be a coicidence. And Mad Doc knows that it would requie a HUGE patch to fix this issue, maybe too huge to post one. I just hope that this shame for the STA saga doesnt kill it. I hope that whoever makes the next one would do a better job and not do a rush job. I dont care if it gets delayed a year as long as it is worth the wait.

I haven't noticed any problems with crashing... unless I'm modding and have made a typo with the .odfs, or the anti-virus decides to rear its ugly head, the game flows uninterupted. Maybe your computers are just too primitive to cope... unlike mine :D
