hi all

I have a p4 hyperthreaded, 1gb ram with an ATI Radeon 9700 pro graphics card (latest drivers) and for some bizarre reason when I run Armada 2 the graphics are all jerky - like laggy framerate. It seems to get worse when more activity is on the screen. Other games, like BF1942, run fine on all the top graphics settings. I've tried all of the lowest graphics settings for the game and the problem is still there. I'm running XP pro, and have Direct x 9a. My pagefile is maxxed and I have no background apps running. Windows Task Manager doesnt show any odd background processing either.

Can anybody help?

Cheers Chris

Do you have the 3.20 Catalyst drivers?

Yes - got the latest catalyst this morning - it didnt solve the problem. I've checked everything else I can think of...

Are you playing any mods? Was the game ok before you upgraded?

No - I'm not playing any mods either. It's a brand new installation (plus the patch). It was jerky before and after the patch as well. Just as a test, today I've played Bridge Commander on the top graphics settings, and Medal Of honor AA - they play fine. Do you think this might be something to do with a basic incompatibility with XP professional? I notice that in the required system specs Activision say that they can't guarantee that the game will work on XP, whatever that means.

I've got XP with a Celeron 2 GHz and a 32 MB Intel graphics card and I've got no problems - try turning off hyper-threading. That has been known to cause problems

i dont think that has anything to do with it. now that i read this i belive it is the 9700. i have a radeon 9700, 768 drr 400mghz, 1.8g athlon xp. xp pro os. i have the same problem from the menu, interface graphics , everything seems to be lagged, and when i try to host or play an online game through my network, my connection flashes on and off, making it impossible to play. Activision told me to run everything at lowest settings........ lmfao, what a joke.. why would i buy top of the line equipment to run an old game at lowest settings.. iddiots. anyways i hope u figure out how to fix this , as i havnt been able to play this game for almost 6months.

NOTE: this problem occurs on both armada and armada2. my opinion from both of the system specs, ibs its the 9700 and xp. Btw this happens in both dx 8.1 and dx9.0 and dx9.0a, and it also happens with all versions of catalyst drivers. even when u disable AA and AF .

Yes - I think you're right. It's exactly as you describe - the mouse on the menu is lagged even before you get into the game! I tried all the lowest settings and it didnt change a thing (and yeh - why the hell should I be sitting here with a monster of a machine and not even be able to play an old game at the lowest settings)

I wonder whether ATI will be able to help. I might forward our comments to them (for what it's worth...) as they might look into it and issue a driver update (yeah - right..)

cheers Chris

actually thats a great idea, because havnt u noticed when u dl new catalyst drivers, if u look threw the fixes , they mostly include fixes for older games. good luck, i know ive been dying to play on my network.
