I have been adding my first ship today (the Delta Flyer) and in the read-me it says that I should modify the .odf file of the base that I want to build the ship. I can open the file in Word Pad but how do I save the midified file? It asks me to save it in the format of a text document, how do I save it in its origional format with the script changes?

Thanks in advance,

This is an easy problem to fix and I'm glad to help.

When you save your file, type in the name of your file and add .odf to the end. Before you save it though, change save files as .txt to All files. This will save it as an .odf rather than a .txt.

However, if you have created an .odf from scratch, I suggest you compare it to a preprepared .odf file to make sure there are no mistakes (e.g. hardpoints spelled hardpoitns or "scout.odf" instead of "scoutBase.odf"). This will save you a lot of headaches down the road. Also, make sure that if you are not using stock weapons (i.e. those included with the game) that you create the needed weapons otherwise the ship will cause the game to crash. If you're using a new sprite for a weapon, make certain that the sprite is supported by the weapon.spr file in the Sprites folder or when the ship tries to fire, the game will lock up.

For the answer to most .odf questions, please consult Westworld's Big Book of Modding, commonly abbreviated BBOM.

Erm, if its a default ODF you may want to pause saving. All the installed default ODF files have read only properties, so just uncheck the properties box, and then save the file.

If you save it as a text doco just change the extension from .txt to .odf by right clicking the file and selecting 'rename'.
