I've been searching the internet and I have yet to find any solid answers to these two questions. One of them is a bit of a newbish question my other question is pretty normal. I'll start with the newbish question first. When I download and run soundpacks such as StarWars or the Arnie sound pack am I the only person who will hear the new sounds\taunts or can everybody in the location I'm in hear them as well? Other question. When I download any single player custom maps my antivirus loads up and tells me it has detected the following virus... Backdoor:win32/apdoor. Are the single player maps all infected with this virus? (so far all I've downloaded have been infected with this) I've only downloaded three so far, Fear 1, Fear 2, and Skirm Deadend map. Everytime I tried to load them the above virus popped up stopping me. Any help regarding these questions would be well helpful.
Question 1 : Nope, no other players will be able to hear the sounds that you installed. If this were possible then it would lag the crap out of the game as maybe all the other players would have to stop and download the file through you somehow but this would be totally inapproprieate so stuff like this doesn't happen. It's the same way with skins, hell you can skin any texture simply by overriding it with another. This would most likly screw up some of the graphics while you play but it's possible to change the asphalt texture, some mappers have done this and it got into mappacks like CMP4, not good results a lot of ppl got pissed off because the textures screwed up a lot of maps like dm_alley. Mappers override sounds sometimes too, but these problems get fixed as soon as they're found by simply deleting that file that is override orginials. The constuction of a sound pack is very simple, all you need is a .wav file and you can replace any avp2 sounds with it, only thing make sure that it has the right path of the originial sounds and the name. Question 2:I've been hearing about this. I don't play single player maps so I'm glad I didn't get this virus. Either the mapper put a virus with his map or someone else attached the virus to the download file. I don't know what the deal is, maye a logic bomb stopping you from playing that map because u d/l it wrong, no clue. I'll get back to that question with the real answer later.
Thanks for answering my first question. I think I found the answer regarding the virus problem. There is one but at the same time there isn't one! Might sound weird but that is what my conclusion tells me. Before when the maps worked perfectly for me I was using mcafee and avg from those two I didn't get any kind of alert to any form of virus from these files. Recently I formatted my pc and downloaded windows one care trial to see what it was like, it was this antivirus that kept telling me all the avp2 singleplayer missions was infected with a virus. This is including the standard avp2 single player missions. After finding that out I decided to uninstall one care and reinstall avg I ran the maps again they worked perfectly with no sign of a virus popup. After testing the sp maps I ran a full system antivirus\spyware scan for any form of spyware or virus and both results came up as clean so the only thing I can think of is that either onecare is bugged, avg cannot detect such files. Or the supposed virus if it really is a virus is needed in order to run those missions.
alright... i got Vladosicdic anti virus, and I haven't had any problem with custom maps or the monolith single maps.
it might be your anti virus is giving you a "false positive" meaning it's thinking the map has or is a virus,i use norton internet security 2008 and all the maps and stuff i download i scan fully for viruses and other malicious programs.from filefront they come up 100% clean, try updating your anti virus program and scan them for viruses and see if it still gives you a false positive,if it does then download nod32 or a trial of norton internet security 2008, or download another good known anti virus tool and see if that tells you if the map is a virus.as far as sounds, models and skins go,no one can hear the taunts nor see the model/skins ETC except you.
well of course i mean if ppl could then there would have to be some way that data gets sent to the other players but this is totally lame idea because it would lag and little kids would do this to us all the time and man I am not in preschool lol, and this would create a lot of cheat advantages and plus it would be way to complex what if 2 players had 2 different predator skins running that take up too much data and it is really lame, so it is not in protocol and good because then I would have to succomb to all these lame ideas and never be able to playe good game maybe this is + for my direction?
