While trying to start the game up I get the error message:

AVP2 Error: Couldn't Set D3D Emulator Mode

I have no idea how to solve this problem and have found very little help online (though I may not have been looking hard enough). I was wondering if anyone could give me some help? Last week I reinstalled Windows XP onto my laptop, I don't know whether that helps or not but I feel I should mention it.

Did you reinstalled the AVP2? If not try too it might help but make sure all the avp2 file are gone like starting from scratch

Of course I do, I got this error countless times, man I got errors when none of my keys would work in game, ok anyway, I do get this D3D error sometimes, basically the game freezes on me and crashes lithtech, then I have to rerun the game however that same msg pops up. But one thing mine says 'Shutting down AvP2' I think the file D3d.ren has something to do with it in your aliens versus predator 2 folder, but I never had to mess with that file, I just had to restart my computer, just some stupid bug that prevents further use of avp2 until a reboot. Win xp could cause some trouble but the only games that it messes up for me is the ultimate doom, there is a program that you have to download if you want to play the ultimate doom on xp because the xp is some new crap and they dont want you using the old krap running on different resources. I had no trouble with avp2, other than frickken server crashes, a lots of unexplainable errors in that field, but it ranges from maps to programming and computer related stuf. Anyways i do think it be good ideea to reinstall avp2 with the win xp oh wait I am so intoxicated right now, don't worry I know what I am typing about. Sorry I thought I read windows vista for some reason here my for win xp, I find it's perfect even other find xp good for gaming, Doom totally works on xp no trouble at all network games all running without errors outside of the game itself. AvP2 work splendid on to me XP. So are you able to play AVP2 AT ALL ??? Are you upgrading an old machine ? this must be realyl old lol because any decent pc today or a couple years is over perfect for the good ol classik AvP2. Do you have a graphics card on your comp, D3d is with the direct x and graphic of the game. Another solution is try changing the detail of the game when you see the queen, go to advanced options and select a lower detail.. does he help ?

Fixed it. I reinstalled my graphics drivers and Direct X. Then it started working. (Probably a conflict in one of those systems)

I don't know exactly what causes this to happen, but when I updated my video card drivers and installed the latest version of DirectX the problem went away. Infact I've done that every time that error popped up. Hope it helps.
