Battlefield 2 1.03 Update Enters Final QA Pass That's right, troops. Barring any last minute issues, the 1.03 update is only a few days from release now. We thought this occasion warranted a post covering the major features and fixes coming in 1.03, so settle back and enjoy.

Wake Island 2007 That's right, the 1.03 update bundles the first official map release from EA and DICE. In this case the map is a modern-era update of one of the most popular maps from Battlefield 1942 -- Wake Island. The People's Liberation Army has invaded Wake to threaten American supply lines. In response the US Marine Corps has been dispatched to reclaim the island. Pick a side and fight to win!

* Stats compare - view the extended stats details for any other player in your BFHQ simply by double-clicking on their name on the leader board or using the new search feature! * Server Favorites and History - find your favorite servers that much easier. No more searching for them through the main server list! * Nickname Prefix - Add and change your clan tag to your account name at will. No more creating alternate account names to cover the changes in your competitive lifestyle! * Supply Drop Icons - Supply drops now appear on the main map and within the 3D Map. Find that elusive supply drop much, much quicker! * Points for Destroying Command Objects - players now receive points for destroying the commander's toys. Special Forces players rejoice! * Server Reserved Slots - Server Operators can now set aside slots for their admins to join a full server at any time! * Vehicle Passengers - the names of players in a vehicle with you are now displayed when you enter or change seats. * Countermeasures - a reload bar has been added for vehicle countermeasures. You'll always know now when you can set off that next flare!

Tweaks

* Point Farming changes - DICE has implemented functionality that makes it significantly harder to point farm on Ranked Servers. * Mod Support - Mods now work properly with the Dedicated Server! Additionally, the game will automatically switch mods when joining a server that is running a mod you have installed but do not have activated. * Map tweaks - Spawn menu map and Commander maps now scale based on the size of the level being played (16, 32 or 64 players). Mini-map also scales automatically based on the vehicle type you are using (manual changes to zoom levels are remembered as well). * Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery! * Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions. * Auto Team Balance tweaks - Commanders and Squad Leaders now immune to team switch. * Anti-Air Missiles - These are now much more effective against fast-movers.

It's finally coming, and with a free map to boot! I like so many of the features and tweaks listed, that I can hardly wait! I'm hoping for this Friday. We'll see...

Great and a new map as well. Just gets better. Hopefully they've fixed that annoying bug where in the chinese attack heli, if you change your view (c) to get rid of the cockpit (as a gunner) then use the tv guidened missles the view is returned back to the cockpit view. Slim

I've been keeping up with the posting as fas as the Patch, It was supposed to be released the end of August, and it said the same thing, Only days away from release. It's funny you pay alot for a game, just like bf_1 and they added a few free maps, But there should be more maps added Not just a new version coming out like Modern Weapons. Half Life added new mods and maps that were from the company that produced it,cs and team fortress, day of defeat, They were all free downloads and thats how they kept people buying the game, Making the customer happy with new things addedand improving the game, it was free downloads, for one, it was a pretty good game untill they intergrated it with Steam. I don't even play it anymore online. Infact I bought HL2 and been thru it twice, uninstalled it, get burned out don't get me wrong it has Nice graphics and all. but it takes forever just to load the game, And if u have no internet then the people that want to play the game CAN'T Think it's great that they got a new,old map with the Patch, But they have thousands of players if not millions of players that bought the game BF2, It takes regular people to make maps and mods for bf2. It started with Desert Combat, Jets and choppers and all they had, then they used that idea and came out with BF2. What Happened to CTF, That would be nice to have CTF again for BF2 MORE Maps would be nice not just the one's that people make at there homes but one's from EA would be nice once in a while.. Sorry I just saw the Days away from release and got me thinking, It also gets people thinking Wow ! the New Patch is coming I can't wait, Again sorry but I just had to let off a little steam. Love the game BF and BF2 I also heard read that it was suppose to be released OCT 3rd 2005 today ? ? Thats just my opinion

Every single one of the mods you mentioned were created by community mod teams (like Desert Combat by Truama Studios), it wasn't until they became wildly successful that Valve decided to take ownership of them, and as far as I am aware for all their hard work in keeping HL alive and kicking after all these years the creators got nothing, and now valve have ported CS to HL2. As far as I am aware Valve itself never created a single free mod or map for HL, of course I may be wrong there because I have been out of HL for many years. They did, however, make the inevitable retail expansion packs that had very litlle impact. (much like RtR and Secret Weapons for BF1942)

BF2 owes its existance very much to Desert Combat, and even the DC team and Trauma Studios was all bought out DICE to help with its creation. Very few game companies produce substantial free addons to their game releases, and even when they do release substantail stuff it's usually under the guise of expansion packs.

Still, like you I look forward to the patch and the Wake Island map.

Yeah I know this, I worked with some people on Unrealtournament mods, computer geeks, thats all they did. I met a few people and went to some gaming siminars. and helped work on a few maps that were later bought by the company. everybody has to make a buck.
