So what do you think of the controls for aircraft, especially helicopters. If anyone has played Novalogic's Joint Operations, then compare that to BF2. Personally I found Joint Ops to be much funner, if not as realistic. It is quite easy to maneuver a chopper at high speed and still have complete stability in terms of firing or landing. BF2 on the other hand has a very tight and difficult method to controlling the aircraft. For helicopters it is almost necessary to use a joystick, and even then can still be very difficult. More so, it seems to be almost impossible to hover. I have been in many a chopper with pilots who had a lot of difficulty controlling it. Sometimes it was even fun because you never knew if you were going to crash or not..raised the tension some. On the other hand I have seen a couple of pilots with Cobras (I was co-pilot) maneuver the chopper like naturals. Suffice to say I was very impressed. So what are your opinions on this?

There aren't really any probs that I can see, you just need practice, and preferably a Joystick. I never was a fan of mouse/keyboard flying. YOu just need reflexes, which you can improve over time if you keep flying. Oh, and you need to be able to reach the throttle and eject button too.

I also liked the joint operations controls better...not as realistic, but oh so enjoyable. I try to avoid piloting bf2 choppers, i'm ok, but a much better gunner.

i've given up all hope of ever piloting a chopper or a fighter. i can't do it with the keyboard/mouse and i refuse to buy a joystick simply for this.

when I first played bf2 i jumped in a plane and took off. sadly 4 seconds later i crashed. HAHA got jacked every time I jumped in one i was either shot down right after take off or lost control. After I got a joystick, flying is what I do now. Flying sims wasn't based around a mouse for controls. Though the heli is harder to get use to. Gunner is where its at though.

It can be done with practice. Make sure you invert mouse for a kickoff on both planes + helis then start on helis. Once you've got them sorted master move onto the planes. Planes especiall and also helis require a bit of lifting and replacing of the mouse to get the damn thing to turn pitch fast enough when turning at times but you can get it sort of going. I dont profess to being anything special, and do get owned in the air in planes at times but I can shoot stuff and track it with a kb + mouse in the planes. Slim

I find the controls for both aircraft and choppers are pretty good. I can fly both by keyboard, but I'm more of a stunt pilot in the planes; I couldn't hit anything for my life in them in DC, but the heat-seeking missiles help me out a bit, and if I get lucky I can hit things with bombs. But in helicopters I can do a bit better. I find that I do a bit better in the Blackhawks and I'm the one that's usually picking up people that go down in the water. I would try to use a joystick for piloting planes, but my power adapter disappeared and I don't get any resistance from the stick, so it's a pain in the ass to use it now.

Wow lol SBN cant be more further from the :rolleyes:truth:rolleyes: about the heli and a joystick..I was ranked top 20 Heli Flyers in the last week and I use a keyboard and mouse it took me about 2 weeks when i first got the demo to get use to the controls but other than that i feel as if a mouse and keyboard its the olny way to go with a heli but i do think you really do need a joy for the fixed wings. Cant fly those for shit :) *HFE*Fighter365 :nodding: Know it worpship it. If your an enemy and see me in a heli you better run because your gona die

I've got absolutely no problem controlling the chopper in BF2, and i fly with keys and mouse. If you think that the controlls are stiff and unresponsive, then bump up the sensitivity and "pitch-yaw factor" (make sure your hand doesn't shake then ;) ). I've got mine at max, and i can do barrell rolls and backflips in the chopper with a jerk of the mouse. If you look at my stats, you will see that i spent the most time in the chopper, but i don't have many chopper kills, but i got huge amount of assist kills, that's cause i provide a stable platform for the gunner, and then he rips anything that moves. It's quite common for my gunner to get the score around a 100 per round. I've been flying choppers in BFV, and those controls are ridiculously easy. I much prefer BF2 controlls, cause they actually take some skill and practice to use them, unlike "flying tanks" of BFV. BF2 controls are just great, as long as you learn to use your enertia

I like the way the aircraft work in BF2. For what this game is, a FPS, they handle very realistically. I prefer choppers myself, and I HATE being a gunner. Nobody ever seems to know how to fly. By that i mean people can sometimes get the copter off the ground, but they then proceed to fly at 300 feet where EVERYONE can get a pot shot at them. So retarted. Some tips for flying helicopters so you dont piss people like me off: 1.) FLY FREAKING LOW! Copters are slower than planes so you absolutely must use your flares to evade missiles, if you dont you are dead. FLying low eliminates many of hte potential locks people owuld get on you by making you harder to spot. SO FLY LOW. 2.) When attacking a tank with missiles there and your gunner is useless.... Start shooting your missiles right before your crosshair hits the tank and keep shooting until after you have flown over and exhausted your clip. You should have destroyed the tank, you shouldnt have crashed, you should have a fresh clip in, and you didnt have to slow down so people didnt get locks on you. If your gunner freaking owns.... fly low to the ground and approch the target, then nose up slightly so that the tank is right under your crosshair. This allows him to use the TV guided really easily. Me and my bro do this all the time to rack up kills. This also works great on other copters. 3.) If you are fighting infantry and you have a good gunner... hover really low right outside of a base and fly steady. Dont try and rotate to use your missiles, let the gunner do his job. Just fly low and steady. If you get hit with a missile get out of there... there are more where that one came from. The works the same way transport copters can do it. 4.) If you are a gunner in a transport copter, ask your pilot to fly low and steady so you can get shots off. Also, a HUGE help to the pilot is to use the Q menu to spot enemy air craft. This REALLY REALLY help sin a dog fight. WHich brings me to my next point... 5.) In a dog fight there no real trick to winning. BUt the most important thing to remember is MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE HE IS AT ALL TIMES!!!!! I cant stress that enough. Thats why having a gunner that can spot is really helpful. To fly a copter is really really simple... 1.) From takeoff, hit the forward key. This engles your blades to give you lift. This lift will moce your craft straight UP. 2.) To move forward, push your mouse down a little bit. This angles your lift forwad and uses the downforce of your grvity to move you forward in a straight line. 3.) To stop your helicopter DONT JUST HIT THE BACK BUTTON. Nose your copter up a little bit then nose back down. Now hit the back button. The nose up should negate your forward momentum andthe down button after leveling should land you. Those are copter basics! Flying is a whole other story. I would give you the basics but here really arent any. If you suck you suck and you shouldnt fly. Any good pilot will tell you that. They are hard to use, and very unforgiving.
