I've been wondering if the assault class should get the option of carrying a ballistic shield. It does sound like a bad idea if any of you think of CS, but this isn't CT's vs. Terrors, this is soldiers vs soldiers (that means REALLY BIG guns, not just BIG guns). That means these shields would only be usefull against infantry. (Snipers, heli's, or tanks could counter a shield very easily.) -Pros: Monitor incoming infantry with less risk of getting shot (see snipers, w/ 50. cal's, and explosives, for infantry solutions to shields). Act as a bullet shield for teamates.:) Very usefull in close-combat situations.:) Comes with a cool viewport so you can laugh at the bunghole trying to shoot you, until one of his buddies pops you in the back.( :cya: + = :0wned: )- -Cons: Big profile (forget stealth). Potential bullet / explosives magnet. Useless against APC's, 50. cal snipers, tanks, and heli's (that's what anti-tank class is for anyway, even for snipers! :smokin: ). Can you say "pedestrian vs. vehicle?" Would have to trade assault rifle for SMG. How do you prone with a ballistic shield? Definite knife-wielding psycopath magnet. Modeling, skinning, and programming the code / data FOR a ballistic shield . . . I hope you're wearing steel-toed boots! :0wned: - Comments?

hydra dont be so negative its actually a decent idea. I say give the shield the ability to fire only your sidearm through it and yes reduce your main weapon to a crappy MP5 :D would add a good playing point to the game with people being able to act as shields. But reality wise it may be slightly twisted seeing as people in the military dont carry those at all becasue of practical uselessness in a large confrontation and the way it severly decreases mobility. It is realistic in a more close quarters style of play though. Perhaps it would be really good for a mod or soemthing like that?

Find me evidense of this actually being widely used by combat forces (no, not MP's), and I might approve.

I have to agree with hydra on this one, there is simply no place for this in BF2. I could go into reasons why but it should be obvious.

Agreed. A shield would be stupid.

Considering something like a personal shield isn't standard combat practice nor part of the training of today's Marine Corps (the division represented in BF2) and won't be in the forseeable future, I can't see it being tangible for BF2. Now, for a mod or something, sure... why not? That could be interesting.

I think assault shields are only really usefull for tactical building breaches.None of those in BF2.Special Forces maybe.
