Hi, I hope I've picked the right forum if anyone can help? I have just bought a Sony Vaio Laptop (FS285M), with a Geforce Go 6200 (supporting 128MB), am I rightly concerned about the playability of Battlefield 2 on this system? Any feedback would be definately appreciated. If I can't play this game any suggestions of good alternatives to it would also be welcomed. Thanks for your time. Hope you can help, I really want to be able to play something until I can afford a great desktop. Cheers, Alex.

well the Card should work on BF2 but we can all tell you im sure that a desktop would play the game mutch better then your laptop. But yes it should run but also consider the RAM and Processor.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just don't want the game to 'stutter', or see other players looking like blocks. My processor is a pentium M 1.73, and I have 1024 RAM. This is my first laptop, so don't really know how they run, but yes, I am definately saving for a beast of a desktop. If this game will run smoothly enough to enjoy I will be happy.

The Pentium M is a very capable procfessor, much faster than the same speed P4 desktop CPU so the CPU is fine, the only thoght I have is that if you run the game at your native LCD res it is going to be a pig for performance. I suggest everything low to start with except for view distance then gradually shift things up to medium, leaving dynamic shadows to last, and NO AA until you get a good compromise between looks and performance.

laptops are very capable these days :D seems that u should be able to play it i mean i myself have a laptop witha p4 2.6ghz ht 1024 mb of ram and a mobility radeon 9600 pro.. and i can run it on medium at 1024x768 or at 800x600 with some 4xAA i turn dynamic shadows low because that increases my fps by quite a bit.. and it stays at a good constant frame rate.. i have put it on higher settings.. just it lowers to like 20 fps.. to slow... So.. ur computer seems like it could definately handle it just you might need to change ur shadow settings a bit and tweak it a bit for good performance..it wouldnt hurt to have updated modded drivers either... .they make my bf 2 run pretty well :D

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I think I might give it a go. I was happy with the graphics of things like Castle Wolfenstein, and MOHAA when they fist came out on the PC, so if I have to turn down dynamic shadows etc, it should at least still be on par with the above mentioned games quality, I hope. I just hate being shot before I even see the enemy, lol. Thanks again.

Thanks that's good to hear, will be good to see how it is. Is the lag acceptable? From what you say, it seems so. I guess when things get pretty manic, I can run like a coward and hide somewhere for a bit. ;) lol

Cheers for that, I bought the game yesterday, and it runs fine. Also the graphics are fine even on low setting, mind you I have plenty of RAM. Can't wait to get online properly, one more week I think for the broadband. So will have to spend some time practising, I don't know if it's just me, but the guns and fixed rocket launchers don't seem that accurate on people, even at point blank! We'll see. Cheers for that link. :)
