Right now i have 1gig of kingston ram 512mb, also kingston 2x 256mb that there all DDR400(PC 3200) with a cas. lantancy of 3 in my computer and im planing on purchasing 1gig under $80 of ram to replace a 256. Is it ok to have ram from 2 companys in 1 computer or is it better to stick with the same company? Also it would help if you refer me to a link will be appreciated.
The best i found was a G.Skill 1gig for $71 at new egg but what makes me not sure of buying it is that of the terrible warranty of 3years and what gets me is that there is NO FRICKEN MOVING PARTS on the ram stick.
you can get better a better generic with a lifetime warranty for cheaper. preicewatch.com . Not to mention you can get a better CL on the ram also... 3 is horrible.
well i dont want to replace all of my ram and thats what the stock 512 had.
pick up a straight gig chip then .. and run it in the first port. I doubt it will make any difference unless you go to a higher end ram ....
I have found that modern mobo's can be VERY picky if you mix and match different brands of RAM. I would stick to the same make to be on the safe side - you dont wanna get a stick and it not work.... I would replace the 1 x 256 with a 512 of the same brand as the 512 you had - or as Merrick suggests keep the 512 and get a 1Gb stick of Kingston - depends on your budget. Let us know how you get on....
Well i just recently took out a 512 from 1 of my other computers which was an older way off brand DDr 333 pc 2700 and all i had to do is change the bus to 133 so all 3 would match the CL and the timings and it worked perfectly and i will be holding off the ram cause I might be getting a 6600gt 256mb around christmas so i can replace the 5500fx that i have so i may not need more ram.And in the future i will go with Merriks plan to go from 1.250gig to 2.250gig of ram.
