Hi all. Sorry if this thread has been done before, but last night I had my first game as Commander on a Special Forces server. No one else wanted to, and they were pleading for someone so I stepped up . Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and managed to score 67 points and win a Silver medal (not bad for first try - and my team won the match). Just wondered if anyone had any hints or tips as to commanding, as I am going to continue to give that a try. A couple of things I noticed; 1) I do not know how people can command properly AND also fight - it seems clear to me that you either fight, or command, my entire attention was drawn to the commander screen throughout the entire match - I have even seen commanders flying a helo - when I fly I find it difficult to talk let alone command, so they cannot be doing their commander job properly. 2) A commander cannot do his job properly unless the players form squads - there doesnt appear to be anyway to give orders to people not in squads - is this correct? 3) I didnt, but precision arty/supply drops depends on zooming the commander map in - havent tried this - I was getting Arty Overshoots? 4) It is important to find somewhere safe to hide as commander - although I dont recall being killed, the scoreboard did tell me I had died once. Presumably you can be killed as commander while on the command screen and then effectively the team is commanderless until you respawn - how important is it to protect yourself - would you divert assets to defend your location? Is there any particular weapon choice for commander (not that I would be using it)? Thanks guys...any tips and answers to my questions gratefully received.

Some People Who Play Bf2 Think A Commander goes out and tries to kill. The best thing to do is hide somewhere near your main base as a engineer so you can repair your arty or anything else. When artillarying you must time it so that it will be about 1 - 2 cm infront of your "victems" so that when its done fireing it will be exactly on your "victems" When supplying try to put it where they need it most. Dont give it to a tank. give it to the 15 other troops. When Placing UAV put it directly on their base so that you can know if some one is trying to sneak around. When scanning, once red dots apear, right click on a dot and click something like "spotted" so that your troops know where people are all over the map. Im not very good at comander because i like to get into the fight but comanders should have --> NO <-- Deaths at the end of the round. Once you get all this down there is an additional thing you can do, You can take squads, right click and there are your options.

Just dont click on EVERY dot. I appreciate the effort, but in truth its VERY annoying to hear "enemy _____ spotted" constantly.

If one guy is causing trouble in a backflag, call him out. If there is a group of people, call out ONE of them- anyone looking for that person will find the rest. Other things like a hiding tank are good to call out, but you dont need to spot everything.

It gets to be a problem when you cant hear the game sounds (guns, tanks, etc) over the commander and other players spotting everything ad nauseum. Another negative effect is that no one will pay attention to your spots if they cant distinguish what is what.

1)Commanders fighting well yes or no. When you have a small side sometimes it is wise for a commander to run around fighting as any other member. You should probably pick medic as a better bet as you can follow members around and throw them packs/revive them without having to worry about your aim. Engineer can be hand for staying behind and repairing equipment. For a larger team then forget about plying pretty much. Either move slightly off base as a medic (to repair yourself) ot as a sniper to help protect the base. Commanders flying a helicopter? Kick them! lol. 2) Squads. The first order you must give is FORM SQUADS. You do need your players to be in squads so at least even if they are acting in "Lone Wolf" fashion they can see your orders. 3) Overshoots don't really happen. Artillery is not too accurate. Have you noticed displacement in Dalian Plant? I beleive that is a bug. 4) You move as an asset lol. Weapon choice. Yet again depending on your strategy. I would reccomend engineer "Jackhammer" for base repairs on some maps. The jackhammer suprises special forces if they have C4 in hand. I am usually a medic commander. Sniping can be good for picking off people and for spotting people. Short tips: If you dont know what to do throw down a UAV. Don't artillery Rape. Help the special forces to get to their target. Announce jet, chopper designations. Use the zoom where you can to aid spotting. But dont over use it.

Ok.... i don't agree with commanders not flying.. at all actually .. if you were smart, you could use one person with the commander and keep him mobile. He as an engineer and the person with him as a medic. take a chopper and go off to a corner of your base. Makes it easy to defend and be offensive. On larger maps take a few more people. Moving as an asset .. i aggree. UAV when you don't know whats up ? Yup... Don't artillary rape ? are you kidding? Use it till they scream bloody murder. In fact use it to force them where YOU want them to be. send in your forces in two spots outside a point... Bomb it, and let them run in and mop up... Called a pincer maneuver. Works wonders. Special forces are an asset and helping them ... works well... But are the rest ... Remember to use the "support" kits too. They can also make or break your squads.
