Before the game came out, there was a lot of talk about officers, officer only servers, etc. Only problem is, sergeant major of the corps is the highest rank.... does anyone know if EA ever plans to implement actual officer ranks?

Highly unlikely. I wouldnt be shocked if they didnt add more ranks in the expansion either. Im pretty sure you need something like 250,000 points for Sergeant Major.... ive got a little over 2 days of gameplay under my belt and I have only 7,500. A guy like me will NEVER hit the higher ranks. I be lucky to make two more ranks before the game gets old. Personally I think the their should be more ranks but make them closer together. Its really annoying to join a server and see two teams FULL of lance corprals with only a few privates in there. Thats not how a real military would work.

I'm lance corporal also, and I just went to www.totalbf2.com to check the officers, and to be sgt. major of the corps you need an ungodly amount of points and a TON of medals.... i'm disappointed, was looking forward to trying to be an officer, not a sgt major

Yes, there should be officers, but with how the system is made I am sure at least 65-85% of officers would be a munch of idiots who found an exploit to gain ranks. Yes officers should have been implimented, but only under a completely different system. The entire rank system is a joke, very badly implimented. What makes me angry is I see now there is a bunch of weapons I will never see due to the fact I have to "unlock" them. That in itself would not be the problem, but I am -200 shy of Corporal. As time goes on I will of course be playing less and less online. As a result, I figure at least a year before I reach Sergeant. I am for the most part just an average player who can have some good games from time to time. But I figure even if I was an excellent player it would still take too #@^$ long to unlock most weapons. How long has America's Army been out? I just reached 40 honor a few months back, partly due to the fact I had not even touched the game for over a year and 1/2 until recently I had some good games where I got 5 points to reach 40. There, the Honor system is hard to gain, but with work, not time, you can reach a decent level at an appropriate time. Here in BF2 it will just take too *(@$ long, and I really have no intention of spending every day playing this game. Especially with COD 2 and Stargate Alliance coming this fall, at least COD 2 will eat up most of my time. p.s. Add in that the game will not support mobility chips I can not even play on my laptop at work madx.gif

Exactly. Unlike many people on this forum, I work 7:30 to 5:30 every day. I go home and manage Network Elucidators, my home buisness. On a good day, I will play one round of BF2 before I collapse into bed so I can wake up at 5:00 to go to the YMCA to swim before work. I am good at the game and usually get first or second, but I just don't have time to get promoted or even unlock a weapon. This game's ranking system was written for losers by losers.

That last post says it all. It isnt even worth the losers time to unlock the weapons. Some of them arent even as good as teh basic ones.

I think the point is that for a good number of us we will not ever see the "full" abilities of the game. I for one at least would not mind at all trying out different weapons. This helps to lengthen the life of the game. Call of Duty, which is my most played game, gets new life for me every so often because of mods, maps, addons, etc. Battlefield 2 will do that as well when more mods are released. But, the issue is will people get to use them. Take the Revolt mod for COD, for a short time it was popular, but the last time I looked I could not find even one server with ANYONE on. It will all depend on how popular the mod is and how the community as a whole adopts it. I think the thing with BF2 weapons unlocks are that there will be a good majority of people that will want to use other weapons eventually to extend the gameplay, but will not because of the time involved to unlock them. More so, we can not even see how they are implimented. If you do not believe that a few weapons will not make a difference, well then check out Call of Duty and see how some weapons added have changed the gameplay. Some servers even allow the Garand to be used by the Axis due to its popularity. The player's weapon is the most vital and important aspect to their gameplay, and to lock half of the weapons up diminishes to some degree.
