I was playing against a team that had really great squads. I never saw a lone wolf, and where I found 1, i found 3. The problem was that whenever i saw 1, i would lob a grenade at him, and I would kill all 3. That made me think 2 things. 1. Squads are good if you are spread out 2. Squads suck when trying to stay hidden 3. If a lone wolf is properly equipped, he can take out a squad before he can be seen.

tight Squads are great, but it seems like the loner can do more than his own fair share of damage. Whats your view?

Tight squads are great? Noway man. I always tell my squad to stay spread out to avoid grenades and machine gun fire from vehicles. Squads can really suck if you are trying to be sneaky, but if all of your squad members are with you and nobody is spawning out of thin air, you are a very deadly stealth force. Also, you are correct. If a properly equiped lone dude sees a squad before they see him he can kill all of them before being spotted. There are a few things with this tho. 1.) That lone wolf has to be REALLY good to do that. Or just be close enough to use a grenade a on a foolish tightly packed squad. 2.) The squad has to be a bunch of retards. When my squad comes under fire from long range its get to cover first THEN fire. I cant count the number of times idiots will just drop to the ground and try to attack an ambusher. The attacker is already prone and firing shots. in the few seconds you take to find him and drop down, then aim and fire he will probably have killed you and some of your squad. Get to cover first, then fight back. Once again tho, the best thing is to stay spread out. No matter what. There is no excuse you can give me for being tightly packed.

wow im surprised you even managed to get a squad that does that. I most of the time just have to try to get squad memebers to respond. It wouyld be a blessing if we could all have VOIP and they listened to what the leaders say.

First and foremost, set your browser filter, whether it be ASE or, shudder, the in game browser, to VOIP enabled. Prior to running my own server I'd find myself trying to talk to fools and found out VOIP wasn't even running. Over on the VSFGamers server all our community members are encouraged to chat up a storm to get people talking. So many people are just a by gun shy to talk, but once the chatter starts, you often can't get them to stop, which is fine, the more they talk, the more they get to working well as a team. Then, rather than having to go so far as to kick a squadmember out for not choosing a needed class, you can get them to switch upon their next death. I agree with most of the points in the first post here, especially that of, as a squad leader, don't lead the battle, as you risk being dead and not working as a mobile spawn. I find the squad doubling as the support class is a good choice, your gun works well from a distance and you can rearm your squad from the rear of the skirmish.

I envy you. Most of the time I can't get people into squads. Wtf is the point of being a commander when nobody is in a squad to receive your orders or request artillery? By asking jackasses to get into squads every two minutes, I got about two people into squads, both created them. So they weren't quite as bad as loners - but almost.
