You cant be permanently banned from a server or from BF2 if you have broadband, even if punkbuster catches you and gives you the global ban, msotly because having broadband constantly changes your IP adress, so punkbuster cant ban you from there... If your rich enough or desperate enough, you can just buy a new copy and youll beable to go back to playing if you were globally banned :bawl: In a nut shell... bans are CD-Key bans, not IP bans :uhm: Lousy EA, letting hackers get away if they have the money, So I propose someone make a server side thing that can stop it (Like CVAR-X on CS:S or something x.x)

I guess you haven't heard of Hardware bans? ;)

And yes, I know if they are still that desperate and rich they can buy a new comp or whatever, but I doubt that more than just buying a new game.

Actually, even though broadband is known as a dynamic provider, most of the time IPs stay the same for quite some time. My IP has stayed at its current value since I moved (almost two years ago). At least with comcast, they only change it if they notice you are hosting (non-gaming) servers, such as HTTPd, FTPd, IRCd, etc

And I think punkbuster can block you based on your modem's mac address (possibly what you guys call a hardware ban), not too sure about that.

My ISP gives you a choice, fixed or dynamic IP,and many other ISP's do also. And no, there is no way to ensure, 100%, that a particular person is banned unless you implement some ludicrous security measure such as iris scanning, or keyboards with fngerprint recognition, and even then someone would crack it just for fun. Just like with copyright protection, ANY system can be got around if enough money and thought is spent on it. The idea of security systems is that they be made difficult enough that it stops 99.99% of the attackers, it can never be perfect.

Yeah... Listen to this story..

I left for work one night when my bud was over, me and him play a lot of COD2 and he just wasnt good at all lol, WELL i left for work and when i came back, i jumped onto COD2, played for about 10 seconds, and then PB kicked me because i had a "Global GUID Ban"

...............oh man, you want to see a person get pissed, i wouldnt stop yelling at my bud.. But anyways i asked Evenbalance to take my Ban off.. because it wasnt my Fault..

Guess what they did... they took my Hardware Ban off, but they left my CD key ban on... so now i have to pay for a new copy of COD2 to play on PB servers again..

So guess whos buying me new game ;) lol, but i am still pissed at Evenbalance.. they dont have any right to Stop you from joining over 90% of the servers out there... you paid 70 bucks to play the game and use it how you want.. what gives them the right to control what servers you play on?

But i guess its a good thing also.. my bud is buying me a new game.. because i am never playing on Non PB servers.. that is where all PB Rejects sit...

Your not a mojor problem see, but if your pc, keeps popping up, you will end up needing not only a new game, but a new hard disc, new motherboard, maybe even a copy of windows be aware, there getting tighter and tighter, be carefull, you can be banned if they try hard enough.
