I had an idea about the destructable stuff. They don't have to relay all that information. The server would detect that a portion of a building is hit and needs to be malformed. It sends out just a small piece of code that the client would then convert to a destructable. That way the server isn't spending all of it's time trying to figure out what's hurt and what's not. The Soldner demo I played was just plain weird.

Thats near impossible if i am understanding you correctly. The Buildings would have to be made into a series of small geometric shapes that form a whole building. When that specific peice of the building is hit, it will break away. And any gravitational pull the remaining blocks have will be calculated in a formula to see if they would break free or not. This loop function could be a long lasting chain effect, thus causing alot of memory usage and/or lag. This has been around for a long time, but only Halflife 2 and Soldier of Fortune (1 & 2, body parts) have gotten really specific on it.

No, you're right. It would be too hard to break it up too small, but I think it could be done in more of an arcade like deal than overly realistic. But, some form of destruction I think is better than none and it can be used as a first step towards more complex models. It is also possible that more optimized code must be written. That is to say they may have to come up with better code.

Aliblista(UK)Didnt anyone play Red Faction. U cud pretty much destroy anything. on and offline. That was made years ago. Surely with all 2days nu tech its possible to do this

If you remember in RF,you pretty could just blow holes in walls, catwalks, etc. While that would still be cool, you couldn't destroy buildings and stuff :lookaround:

MMM and remeber this is a much larger world here. More detail to. I mean mabey a mod team will make destructable buildings becasue it can be done by using multiple destructable devices and putting them together to make a house. But everything you guys want to see with destructables in not going to happen for said reasons mentioned above.

'[SYN hydraSlav']An easier way to explain this is to use the php tag :D
or
:deal:
Thanks for posting about the PHP tag. I would have never known what it's use is! :) Nice. ------------------------------------------
When you are looking at the server list on 1942 and you click on a server it will refresh the server with a new ping and player count, I would like to see that in BF2.

I hear that! I try to join servers only to find they're full. OneTinSoldier
