Okay, seems like this is the hot potato of the day, so tell us your opinion.
I understand their decision to nerf the ranks a bit...it's more fun if you're visibly progressing throught this stuff, especially for those who don't play much. I think I would've made it a leeetle bit harder, though. At least they appear to have added more ranks to make up for the over-nerfing (unless I'm mistaken about that).
TBH, I love it, I dont care about the ranks and points, all im interested in the weapon unlocks, it adds more diversity and variation to the game.
I know I could (have) just play(ed) on unranked all weapons unlocked servers, but that means theres a distinctly smaller amount of servers for me to choose from.
But now, I have 4 unlocks, and about 1k points 'till my next unlock, so im very happy.
would have been nice to have a Scrap the Ranks option. they are useless...
I like it. Just got 2 promotions and 2 unlocks. Now ask me if I like what I've unlocked, that's a different q alltogether. I cant hit a barn door with the sniper rifle and the spec ops upgrade also seems a bit lame. Slim
Absolutely the worst idea. Just look on any server now, everyone is a Sergeant and above, running with all guns unlocked.
I've debatted this in the thread about it. Here i am just voting
I don't give a shit about ranks... It would do BF2 a lot of good removing them altogether IMO.
Why remove them? You dont need to care about them if you dont want to.
The stats tracking is nothing new,It has existed in Americas Army for years now, albiet as a 3rd party system. The BF2tracker site started out as an AA:O site.It was also in depth figuring in all kinds of stats you never knew you cared about. Most other games simply tracked Frag Rate cause in the end when it came to competeing that's all that really mattered. Most people only ever looked at a persons FR in AA to,despite having myriad other stats available to them as well.
I think the ranking system means little to me since I played Americas Army for so long which had the honor system, which is the same basic thing, you get so many points you get an honor level. It was quicker to gain ranks, but then there was 100 so that makes sense, thing is honor only mattered for playing certain maps,IE you needed 15 honor to play on Special Forces maps, and needed 50 honor to play Delta maps.Servers could also institue their own caps based on honor. It was never a good example of skill though. The Average player with say 60+ honor probably had a frage rate of .60,horrid.You got points for participating though much like BF,you could have 20 honor and have an FR of 5.00 though at the same time.
The Rank system operates the same way,it's simply a measure of time played or time spent exploiting the system in some way,Anyone that plays 8 hours a day is going to have a high rank,it's almost impossible not to.However how high exactly depends on how exactly they spend their time, the majoirty at the top currently spend it in a tank, which doesnt' take alot of skill, even if you really suck. The Stats padders sit in the middle. If I spent all my time in a Tank or some other Assault Vehicle I would likely have a far higher score than I do now,but knowing that my rank is meaningless outside of weapon unlocks and commander selection,I would much rather enjoy the game as a grunt.
The ranking system could have remained the same for all I cared as I spend most of my time on non ranked servers anyway,I find personally the team work to be much better. You won't see guys working together on Ranked servers as much because it isn't a team game. The whole point of the Ranking system is to earn points for yourself,to boost YOUR rank.It does nothing for the other 30 people on your team.Play on a server where scores are not kept and all that matters is your performance in that round and the competition is that much better.
The people sitting around whiniing that thier precious rank has been spoiled can keep crying,I haven't any time for people who are only in to these games for personal glory, cause it's a fucking video game and if glory ina video game somehow defines a person I have to question what their "real" life must be like.
"Well it's progress, but maybe they nerfed the requirements too much"
I think if they would double the Rank points for all but the 200,000+ ranks it would be much better. It's been a while since I played AA, but I recall the honor system wasn't quite the same thing as BF2 ranking. Points and all, yes. But a TK in AA was extremely bad on your points. Maybe that is no longer true. It could drop you down to a lower level. I guess with BF2 ranking it could happen, but a -4 point hit in BF2 isn't really that bad since overall point accumulations are many times higher than in AA. Certainly, the more you play the more points, but that's kinda obvious in any sport where the idea is to gain points... i.e., it takes time to accumulate points... duh! However, some of the awards (medals, ribbons, badges) do have specific time of play requirements. Sheesh they want 1000's of hours of play for some BF2 medals. I have seen very unteam-like play by people who do get high scores. It's sad. For me, I've found I do better at BF2 when I play as a member of a team. I like the ability to re-spawn on your squad leader; it doesn't force team play, but it encourages it. Likewise, with a fire team like that, it helps to take, capture, and hold flags. For some, the first ones to get there get the most capture points. There are still "poachers" who run in just for the quick points, but secondaries don't get as many points.
