I have been playing the game since yesterday and have really gotten into it. It plays just like bf2 but at the same time differs tremendously. I had a few bugs that I had to address EA about before I could download it so it made me mad for a little. Then I noticed some technically issues about the game after I started playing. Not to brag, but I have Duel-6800 GTs and 2 gigs of ram. I can run BF2 on high and 4x AA, and it looks great. However after playing SF I soon encountered a problem that I thought I had finally beat. Good old choppy lag! To be fair I am fairly certain it is my computer because it would lag under the same circumstances every time. Mostly when all 64 players were in my screen, in addition to armor, explosions, rpgs flying every where and Gas. I will talk about that later. The new maps are fun for the most part. The NV just takes some getting used to. It looks realistic and that’s what I the devs were going for. However it kind of defeats the purpose of the BF2 engine. You can’t see far, it’s a bland color spectrum and low detail. While talking about sight its, the tear gas canisters also are a nuisance. I have barely been affected by the gas yet, it’s fairly easy and quick to put the mask on. But the effects of the gas are not nearly as useful and the concealment they provide. Think of the assault gas canister in normal BF2. Now you get 3 of them and a Launcher to make them go the distance. Plus the support class carriers it = Ammo bags = SPAM TIME. That kind of reminds me of BFVeitnam where they put the m60 and LAW rocket into one and only one class. I think giving it to the Engineer would have been a better choice. BTW, as far as I could tell the Engineer and Medic don’t get anything new. Some levels they have different default weapons but they don’t get a grappling hook or Zip Line. So when looking at all the new stuff a lot of players gravitate to Sniper-SpecOp, Assault/Anti-Tank/Support mostly. I saw so few medics on some servers that it reminded me of BF1942 where you hardly saw a medic per game. (Side Note: I usually played a medic because I thought the Tommy Gun was fun, but back to BF2SF) Another Side Note (When looking at the new screenshots and stuff, before buying SF, the RPG-7 looks amazing. When I first got in a game as insurgent I went with the RPG and was expecting to do some damage. However the RPG is that of Desert Combat not BFVeitnam. Meaning you have to score a direct hit to kill a person. Somewhat lame in my opinion but ohh well. Anyways there is a lot more I could ass but I want to see what you guys like about SF. Or what you don’t Like/ What EA needs to fix/ADD to make the game even better.
Does it feature SP or is it just MP? How many maps come with it?
I was contemplating buying it, but I'm not sure.
yea i like it to it except the annyoing thing when my sqaud leader is on a roof of a tall building and i cant spawn on him. And the sniper should get a grappling hook to climb up on stuff or even better get both items, is it just me or is the m95 more accurate/ powerfull b/c i have been getting alot of one shot kill with it lately.its a ton of fun if u r in a good sqaud that sticks together its a blast like i mean a ton of fun i give it a thumbs up overall i would say get it
I definatley prefer the SF expansion pack. I like being on the ground, or using a bit of armour sometimes. Jets and choppers are the bane of my existance. Its not that I cant fly them, I can, but without an adequatley accurate AA system they seem to dominate far far too much. A GPMG should not be more effective at taking down a chopper than 2 stinger missiles.
Special forces is a game for real men, who shag ladies, no more jet nonsence. 9 times out of 10 when you get jet/chopper pilots fighting on the ground they can't hack it and their K/D ratio soars. I think that the blend of weapons added are very good, and seem to be more accurate than BF2's standard weapons, especially the F2000. Tear gas does have its uses and most people I find don't get their masks on quick enough, and its not used hardly as much as it should. Besides even if you start to get effected by it and you put the gas mask on, your vision is still blurred and you are coughing for sometime after, so instantly sticking your mask on does not cure you. All it needs is a nose full of gas and the person is no longer combat effective.
My favourite maps are the Spetsnaz ones, which seem to me to be really well built maps where you get some great firefights with semi organised squads in public servers. The Spetsnaz models are done to such a high degree and look truly excellent. Well done EA.
I am enjoying BF2:SF as well. But let me respond to the Sniper needing a grappling hook comment. In my opinion they really do not and this was done (not giving them a grappling hook) so that there is some balance because it would become extremely annoying to see snipers on every roof-top. SO now you must use some more squad tactics to get to these roofs otherwise it will just become the same old thing with snipers hanging out on every rooftop.
Teargas and flashbangs also I feel have great effect. The gasmask is not as easy as you think to just throw on and not to mention the teargas is not supposed to be used as a weapon where someone already sees you and is shooting at you. Its designed to be used as a surprise tactic. Flashbangs are better used to fight against people you already see since the only defense is to look away.
I actually like a efw Spetsnaz maps myself but I hate Mass destruction for some reason. Just seems to get on my nerves.(dunno why)
I have also experienced a massive performance drop But I cured it by using a windows XP tuneup. Now of course I am still registering about 20FPS lower in SF then normal BF2 but I can survive with it on medium settings.
