Hi, Well this idea was though up by myself but my buddy kind of pushed my into it. This mod doesnt have to do with war with guns but rather war on the blacktop.
Revolution Racing is a HL2 modification based on street racing. We plan to include fully customizable cars with a buy system which rivals cs. In this mod we plan cars anywhere from Nissan Skyline GTRs to 67' mustangs, thus there may be wars between old school american muscle cars vs. the new wave of import tuners. We haven't really settled on how many cars there will be nor do we exactly know how in depth the parts list will go, but we expect to have a lot of customization and variability between cars even if they are the same model. Servers will be based on 16 players eventually but every race will be 4 players. Thus we there will be a wait time before races. This is not to discourage the player but to allow the players time to customize their cars. Also we plan to add a sort of xp system into the game. So, if a player wins a race he gets 3xp and 2nd gets 2xp and so on. Last player gets none. This is to even out the races so that players who win their races will not just get more and more money as the fly through everyone with nos kits and such. That's about it. This is where you may come in. We of course need some help. We would like to have about 5 modelers ( just because there are so many cars. In fact we may need more) and maybe get some coders as we go along, but until the sdk comes out we wont really need coders at the moment. Any other positions u think you could help us out with? Just email me at email@example.com I'll respond to ur email asap and get u some information. Our site is being completed as I typed and we plan to post more information on the site soon. Also if you have a mod being made that is similar in idea I would be interested in talking about merging just so that we dont have a million racing mods.
I'd love to see a HL2 racing game, man. Good luck and you know I'll be waiting to see how you guys actually implement those ideas, seems pretty massive. :D Can we put my '86 Oldsmobile wagon in?
Oh yeah, I'm gonna move this thread to our nice new HL2 forums, instead of keeping it here in Half Life.
Don't mean discourage u, but, HL already has racing MODS! www.hlrally.net as an eample with 2 or 3 others! But, who knows? Yours might "rule them all!" ;)
Anyways, do u guys have a website with its own domain up and running (not geocities or .tk) or will u need one hosted by us?
Those are Half-Life mods though, Azz, not Half-Life 2 like Traxil plans. Besides, there's a lot of proposed gameplay variations not found in other mods. And even ignoring that, HLRally deals with rally cars while Revolution Racing is about street racing. They're about as different as baseball and soccer. :p
Anyway, even if some other HL2 racing mods pop up, competition is good.
I guess they are for HL1 ... but, i bet they'll make patches for HL2! Anyways, yea, competition IS good!
Good Luck Travil! :)
I'd rather not have competition. That may seem kind of dumb but I mean, we don't want this to be BF where a new mod pops up about ideas in three mods already in progress. It's just dumb. I'd rather have it so that people who are making a racing mod of some sort talk to me or one of the staff members to see if there is a possibility of a merge. That way the best game possible for the players is distributed and everyone involved about being part of it.
BTW I am still in need of some help. I need some people to help us with some car models. Also, our site is up but not to the public. We are busy adding some depth to it before we release the address.
Yea, i undertsnad, but as Vanthem pointed out....There is NO Street Racing MOD as of now! So, the idea probably WILL go thru! I mean, for one, I will be playing it!
Anyways, will u need ur site to be hosted on hl2files.com? Or do u have ur own domain? (Example: www.RevRacing.hl2files.com)
I've been considering it. My buddy is finishing some flash things as we speak on the site and it should be available in a couple days. (I'll post it here). The site is currently hosted on one of those free sites and as good as we have got it with unlimited upload and accesss levels we would rather it be hosted on this site or others. I'll consider what options I have. I was working on Suburbia which is hosted by BF1942files and I found some annoying things such as people not being able to access the site. However I'll get in touch with you in the next couple days as the site is operational to see if maybe we will be hosted. But it would be helpful if HL2files was opened ;)
Right! As u wish! We will provide u with unlimited bandwidth but, all large files must be posted on www.hl2files.com! In other words, u aren't allowed to host ur mod on ur site! (Its a rule!) Another thing, i don't think ur allowed to have ur own forum either, as u will be given a section to urselves on gamingforums.com!
Tell me if u need anything else,
The site's pretty much operational, Trax (just one more document I need to add). It's not jam-packed with Half-Life files yet, but we can keep adding those post-launch. I'm anxious to get the site open to the public, so it shouldn't be a whole lot longer.
