Damn straight I know Vietnam vets! :)

My father (currently a CMDR in USN Reserves CB) and all his Navy friends were there in Da Nang from '68 thru '70. He never talked about pretty much ANYTHING that went on there until pretty recently, and that wasn't all too pretty. He says that if they made a "Band of Brothers" type miniseries on Vietnam, people might understand all the screwed up junk that happened to the guys that went there. I mean, people THINK they know, and some movies give a good idea, but he says something a little more in-depth might drive it home.

Anyhow, he thought that BF1942 was pretty cool when I showed it to him last summer, and he thinks BFV looks great. I showed him a few screenshots (like the ones posted with AA and AF on) and he said he thought it was a photo from Vietnam. How's that for an endorsement on the graphics?

I made him a CD of the music featured in the game, some audio from the Good Morning Vietnam soundtrack, and more music of the era for his birthday - he was psyched... he called me today and said he played it 6 times today. I'll have to make a Volume Two...

My Dad spent time in Vietnam twice, if I remember his stories correctly. Once early on in the war he worked with "advisors" (read: CIA and something I'll just call the P. Program) after the French pulled out and before the US started to really send massive numbers of troops over. He started out in that "pre-war" period as Marine/USN medical advisor working with the previously mentioned groups and the southern Vietnamese. His second stint was still as part of the medical corps (not sure of exact locations) in the hump.

hell ya, 'nam vets are all over the place. my daddy's one, and he seems impressed with the game. even though he was a non-combatant, he still has some scary stories coming under attack by rockets and whatnot. my uncle was a vet as well. he took claymore pellets in the skull, and spent close to a year in a body cast after that. he's still in danger of remaining pellets in his brain today. oof. i really think that this game has bridged the gap between my dad's years in vietnam and my life, so who says video games are all bad?!!! anyway, i don't want to evoke sympathy or anything, just keep in mind that nobody really wanted to be there, and we should respect that many vets still feel the troubles of the war. don't go around causing a scene, because after all, this is all just a game, not the real thing.

My dad is a Vietnam vet. He was in the USMC 3rd LAM division (since has been disbanded). When we were on talking terms, he told me of a few stories that he had experienced over there. He told me that that place (Vietnam) was the closest thing to hell that he has experienced. My mom was accidentally sent over there. She was a loadmaster for C130s in the USMC. Even though she was over there for a short period of time, she also stated that it was like hell on earth.

My dad done three tours over there. Part of the second tour was on PBR's. He said that was alot of fun. lol Crazy freak. He spent the remainder of that tour & his 3rd as a supply clerk after being injured. I also know quite a few other people that were over there. One of my best friends done 4 tours. He was in the Special Forces & believe me they done some crazy stuff over there for sure. I have to say I don't feel like I missed a thing.:D
